[edit] Proper English rendering of the game's name!
Okay, what exactly is the English version of the Japanese words constituting the name of this game? Is it "Panel De Pon" or "Paneru De Pon"? And is "de" like in French or is it a word unto itself, in which case it should be spelled "De", not "de". Can someone out there who knows Japanese tell us what these words mean? What's a "Panel" if taken as the English version of a Japanese word? Or should it be "Paneru" after all? Please help! And while you're at it, please add the answer to the page itself...
Thanks!
Well, on the box of Nintendo Puzzle Collectio, it was written as PANEL DE PON. I believe it says the same thing in the game credits in both versions. I don't think "de" should be cpatalized. Also, remember that Super Smash Bros. Melee titled it as "Panel de Pon"68.38.52.238 19:14, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
The game has you aligning panels. That's what "Panel" means. Please, if you don't know about this game, don't contribute. PsychoJosh 08:59, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- We will know if "de" should be capitalized if someone who knows Japanese can tell us what the actual translation is. In French, "de" means something. In English, "de" is more like "duhhh". If it is just a made-up name by Nintendo, that's fine too, but either way, the answer should be in the page.

- But remember in Super Smash Bros. Melee, the trophy description of Lip's Stick titles the game as Panel de Pon, the "de" lowercased.68.38.52.238 20:48, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Necessary information
Now that I've cleaned the page up we need info on this version of the game; mainly its story, influences and characters, as well as an expansion of the list of differences between it and Tetris Attack. PsychoJosh 08:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for cleaning up this page. I definitely like the idea of having a distinct Panel De Pon page, but I suggest keeping the info on differences on the Tetris Attack page. Otherwise, the same content is stored on two different pages and is difficult to keep in sync.
[edit] Panel de Pon is not Tetris
I deleted the part saying that Panel de Pon was released in the US as Tetris, which is an entirely different game.--Soetermans 10:57, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Story and characters
Without a story and character description, this article might as well be merged into TA. I'd like to write out the story, but I don't have the original PdP game manual, and the only site I found with the story was Intelligent System's PdP site, but it won't display Japanese (my computer usually can, but for some reason it won't for some pages). So can someone either write the story themselves, or find it somewhere else? Perhaps we could elaborate more on the characters as well. Lip already has her own article, but none of the others are touched on. 199.126.137.209 02:37, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'd love to add those in, but I can't right now. There is really not that much info on the characters, so perhaps we can just make a article titled "Panel de Pon Characters" and merge Lip's article with it. As for the story, there's not much to add, and I believe it's already in Lip's article. Benpc91 22:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Lip's article doesn't mention anything on the story. Luckily however, it is detailed in the Japanese Wikipedia, so I'll incorporate it into this article soon. 199.126.137.209 12:46, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Super8robotg6?
Who the heck just put "Super8robotg6 has said that he thinks they are hot and wants to make out with all of em. Well, now we know who the father of the Puzzle Collection characters is."? I don't think that's unnessesary to do it. :/ Girla PurpleHeart 14:38, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's not really necessary to report every single instance of vandalism. Drexx 00:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Characters
I added short descriptions of the original PDP cast, plus names. Tell me if they're okay. Telemachus Claudius Rhade 13:15, 5 April 2007.
[edit] "Sherbert" & "Selene"
To whoever wrote that, the graphics say "Sharbet" and "Seren" in the Stage Select of 2P. VS. Mode, proving what I wrote to be correct. I corrected it by putting the correct names back. Telemachus Claudius Rhade 17:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Question about the fairies' world.
Just out of curiosity: is it really called "Popples"? Is this mentioned in the game? Telemachus Claudius Rhade 17:14, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't played the game to see, but the Japanese Wikipedia article says it's called Poppurusu (ポップルス?). Tony Myers (talk) 06:48, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Split complete
I've just finished splitting Panel de Pon back into its own article (was previously merged with Tetris Attack). The article needs several things:
- This article needs PdP boxart and screenshots.
- The "Newer Versions" section in both this article and Tetris Attack currently read exactly the same - these should be refactored for their respective markets.
- Need more information on release dates and markets, with sources.
- Please keep listcruft and fancruft out of the article. Please consult VGProj Article Guidelines for information on the kinds of information that should and should not be included.
- Need more information on cultural significance of this game, with sources. The game was very popular and spawned a whole series, so there is likely lots of reliably-sourceable information on its notability.
Thanks for your patience, folks! — KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:11, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for bringing the PDP article back! ;) Telemachus Claudius Rhade (talk) 17:08, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Merger proposal
There is far too much overlap in the contents of this article and the article for Tetris Attack, and they are essentially the same game released for different regions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.57.214.150 (talk • contribs) 18:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose: We just re-split these two articles from a merged article. When merged together, we had too many problems with non-overlapping content. Panel de Pon has significant notability on its own, separate from Tetris Attack, and when we tried to handle this in a combined TA article, the biggest problem that arose was a problem with WP:WEIGHT - giving undue weight to Tetris Attack. The conclusion (see split discussion on Talk:Tetris Attack) was that it would be better to split the articles again and try to find a way to link the two together. I believe the best way to do this is to summarize the common gameplay elements in each article and give a more detailed description of the overall gameplay in Puzzle League (series). — KieferSkunk (talk) — 18:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Also, in my split notes above, I mentioned a number of areas that need to be cleaned up. Technically, the split is not complete right now because both articles need to have their game-specific sections pruned and cleaned up. Right now, both articles have exactly the same content in those sections, but I didn't (and still don't) have enough knowledge or time to fix them myself. The notes above describe what needs to be changed in both articles, and the notes themselves exist in both article Talk pages. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:55, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose: The merged article was a mess, it had separate sections for the Panel De Pon characters and the Tetris Attack characters. It had a description of the Tetris Attack game modes, but of course no mention of the game modes from Panel De Pon or the sequels. Worth noting that Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Brothers 2 have separate articles. Poobslag (talk) 22:39, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Opppose: Your Doki Doki Panic argument is a compelling one. As the story-line is completely different, and features different characters. Panel De Pon, doesn't fit into the 'mario universe' either. AtaruMoroboshi (talk) 15:09, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Doki Doki Panic's a very different game from SMB2. PdP is just a different plot. No new gameplay at all. The different lists of characters is irrelevant because those shouldn't even be there anymore. PdP-TA is just a different skin. The only difference is the Plot and the References - and I'm sorry, but two things doesn't separate the two much at all. Doki Doki Panic isn't a "version" of SMB2, nor is SMB2 a version of Doki Doki Panic, at least not in the way PdP the Japanese version of Tetris Attack. - A Link to the Past (talk) 05:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- The "these two games are virtually identical and just have different plots" argument was one of the main reasons why the articles were merged the first time. As I mentioned above, that led to WP:WEIGHT issues, among others. IMO, it's better to have two articles with some redundant content, than to try to have one article that is ambiguous and unclear. This is definitely much more of a grey area than in most other cases, since the games ARE virtually identical except for presentation, and yet they have their own distinct followings such that they are both notable in their own right. It's difficult to present a single article about two subjects and make sure people keep them both straight. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:51, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Popularity doesn't matter, the fact of the matter is that they're the same game with different presentation, and there's not much else that can be said to differentiate the two. - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:19, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Then how do you propose we get around the weight and presentation issues in the merged article? We had already reached a consensus to re-split the games because those issues were too difficult for us to resolve at the time. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 23:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- All that's needed is separate paragraphs for Panel de Pon's plot, and a second paragraph about the presentation. There's no source discussing its differing fan bases. - A Link to the Past (talk) 01:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- If you can do a better job than we all did with the last merge, and you can form a consensus to do so, be my guest. :) — KieferSkunk (talk) — 04:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

- Oppose: per KieferSkunk, his points are the most compelling in this discussion. I don't see the harm in keeping the split, especially when gameplay info would be better off in the Puzzle League series page. hateless 04:41, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
