This article really needs some sources sited, especially for "Panantukan's basic boxing formulae are the roots of Western boxing, and thus resemble the modern style very closely."and a cleanup would be nice too... --Mista-X 11:15, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
I cleaned up the grammatical and structural errors, made the article more concise, removed disputable statements (e.g. the supposed origin of the word "panantukan" and the unverified claim that Western boxing is based on panantukan), and I included Rick Faye's Panantukan book, which has discussions about the nature of the art in the first section, as a source.
It is key to note that Rick Faye is generally regarded as the preeminent expert on Panantukan and he operates one of the few schools that teach it with any sort of structure, so I regard him as an authority of sorts. Furthemore, I think it is important to realize that, as with all evolving and blended functional martial arts, there is no single definition or characterization of the discipline that everyone will adhere to, so it is important to speak about the art as generally as possible. In panantukan/kali, the distinguishing factors of this art are limb destructions, angling, parrying, flow, zoning, and dirty tactics, so I kept the article's focus on those points.
