Pantygasseg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pantygasseg (Welsh: Pant-y-gaseg) is the name given to a single row of houses on the mountain to the west of Pontypool in Torfaen county borough, South Wales.

The name means "Hollow in the mare's back": mare's (caseg>gaseg) hollow (pant). This is due to the shape of the mountain as it appears on the horizon.

The row of houses is split into four terraces. The first is named Bush Terrace and contains 10 houses. The remainder of the village is called New Houses, and contains approximately 28 houses. There is also a former public house and a former school (both now residences), and several other residences.
