Panmure Basin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panmure Basin is a basin occupying a volcanic crater within the Auckland Volcanic Field in New Zealand. It is located to the south of Panmure town centre.

In February 2008, scientists announced that drilling had discovered a younger vent buried within the much older crater.[1] The new volcano could be as young as 10,000 years, while the larger volcano erupted about 28,000 years ago. It is very unusual for eruptions in this field to occur at the same site as an earlier vent.
