Pandora Jewelry is a Danish company which produces a range of handcrafted charm bracelets, matching rings, earrings, and necklaces. The company was established in 1982.[1] The biggest markets for the jewelry are in the United States (where it was introduced in 2002), Germany and Australia.[2] In 2006, the company grew its business by 500%.[1]
The pieces are individually hand made in Denmark from sterling silver, 14 carat gold, precious stones and murano glass.[3]

[edit] Bracelets
The core of the Pandora range, the bracelets consist of a simple chain or band made of silver, oxidised silver or gold. Individual charms made of sterling silver, cultured pearls, murano glass, 14 carat gold, cubic zirconia and other precious jewels (pictured) are bought separately and added to the bracelet to create customised designs.[4] Pandora is different from other charm bracelets because of its patented system of "threads" in the centre of the bracelet that beads screw over, allowing any charms to be evenly spaced across the chain.[5][6] Bracelets are secured either with a lobster clip or with their "Pandora" bead clip (pictured above).[6]
The brand concept is "one for every unforgettable moment". It is suggested that beads be added to a bracelet to recognise special moments in the wearer's life.[7][8]
There are over six hundred charms available and they have a large price range, from approximately US$9.00 for "spacers" up to US$500 for solid gold beads, allowing the purchaser to determine their price point.[8][7] The company has a policy of requiring that their products be sold at the recommended retail price. In 2007 a complaint was lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in regards to their resale price management policy in Australia and New Zealand.[9]
[edit] Match jewelry
Pandora also sells a collection of rings, earrings and necklaces intended to match the bracelets.[3]
[edit] Expansion
Pandora Jewelry is sold in 16 countries at a variety of jewelry stores and individual company-owned brand stores, as well as through numerous websites The first Austrian flagship store was opened in August 2007 and Australia's first opened in the Queen Victoria Building on September that year.[2] In the three months to October 2007 over twenty stores were opened in large German cities, and it is anticipated that there will be over 140 stores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland within three years.[10]
[edit] Sponsorships
In the United States, Pandora Jewelry supports the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and Hurricane Katrina victims through the Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund by contributing a portion of the profits from the sale of certain beads.[8][11] Bracelets are also given to Glamour Magazine's "Women of the Year" honorees.
