Panda (or Panda Drum & Bass) is the stage name of Peter Altarbor (born April 14, 1986 in Nijmegen, The Netherlands), a Dutch electronic music artist living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, specializing in Drum and Bass. He gained an interest in electronic music in his teenage years. He was inspired to write electronic music after seeing a live performance by an electronic music act in his birthplace Nijmegen. [1] Panda’s tracks have been aired on all premier drum & bass radio stations and many major drum & bass performers have played Panda’s tracks in clubs.

He attends the Vrije Universiteit.

Panda previously released on the experimental jungle label Exegene Records and Foundname Records under the stage name of Peet.

Panda released his debut album Retake Manhattan in 2008. It is a concept album themed around the 400-year anniversary of the discovery of New York by the Dutch. It features 14 tracks which represent a fictitious journey around the world. It has been supported and played by many artists in the drum & bass scene both in clubs, on radio and podcasts including BBC Radio One, BBC 1Xtra, Kool FM, the Drum & Bass Arena podcast by artists including Fresh, Mary Anne Hobbs and Paul B[2]. The single Baghdad was a featured Drum & Bass Download on BBC 1Xtra [3]. The album itself was a featured release on the Dutch 3VOOR12 Luisterpaal [4].

It is published and distributed by Wildlife directly through Wildlife Direct [1] [2] and through retailers such as Amazon.

Panda’s fan base includes over 2,500 supporting fans with 30,000 views and 35,000 music plays on the social network MySpace [1] over 50.000 video plays on Panda’s YouTube [5] channel, another 500 fans on the Dutch social network Hyves [6] and over 500 subscribers on his mailing list.

Panda has received a Drum & Bass Awards-nomination as Best Producer in the Netherlands [7]. He has played as a DJ at such venues like the Paard van Troje, Bibelot, Winston Kingdom, Bazart, Escape, Metropool in the Netherlands and the Pool Bar club in London. Panda has organized two purposely contrasting nights; ONE in Nijmegen focused on the hottest dance floor drum & bass and Reaktor in The Hague focused on the harder side of drum & bass music.

Panda has won several competitions with his music. One of the most notable a production competition between the two major drum & bass websites on the internet: Dogs On Acid and Drum & Bass Arena. The competition was judged by drum & bass musician John B, who picked Panda’s music as his favorite, mentioning: “It just changed my mind”. Other notable competitions include the production competition for the premier Dutch drum & bass website DNBforum.nl [3] where he entered first place. On the radio, the drum & bass magazine Knowledge chose one of his tracks as its best unsigned track heard.
