Panchalankurichi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panchalankurichi is a small but historic village, 3 km from Ottapidaram and 18 km from Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu in India. Panchalankurichi was once a Palayam and the birth place of Veerapandiya Kattabomman, a 17th century Palayakarrar (or Polygar), who opposed the British colonial rule in India and their Tax collecting methods.

Later he was captured and hanged by the British.

Today Panchalankurichi is a tourist center with Kattabomman Memorial Fort being the major attraction.
