The Panay Giant Fruit Bat (Acerodon lucifer) was assessed to be extinct in 1996 from the Philippines. The cause of this extinction was probably the destruction of their forest habitat by humans. Another accompanying cause might have been the overhunting of this species. Many of them appeared in camps during the World War II.
