One of the lock chambers in the Panama Canal. The view is from a small boat about to enter the east flight of the Gatun locks, heading south towards the Atlantic side. A ship can be seen in the next chamber up; on either side of the lock are the railway tracks on which the mules run. Within the arches to either side in the foreground are the halves of a swinging road bridge.
