[edit] Page creator permanently blocked
The user who violated WP:COI by creating this article has now been permanently blocked for inappropriate user name [1] Qworty (talk) 09:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- The user in question is just a kid who loves his kayak. He uses Pamlico 140 as his handle on a kayaking website and did the same here.

- Unfortunately, that's a violation of our naming guidelines. He can always request a name change and be unblocked that way. -- Kesh (talk) 14:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Actually WP:UN doesn't prohibit the use of product names as user names, see discussion hereXaeon (talk) 17:47, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- It may not be a "per the letter" violation of the guidelines, but I still think it falls afoul of the spirit. -- Kesh (talk) 17:54, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Even still, the spirit of the rule is to prevent user names intended for advertisement. The product in question has been discontinued which rules out advertising. The user in question, while clearly a fan of the product, does not appear to be trying to advertise it even if it were still for sale. Xaeon (talk) 18:26, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I am very glad to see that the user is unblocked, and I thank the administrator who did so. I would also like to note that [that Qworty, whose inaccurate comments led to the ban, also made misleading statements here -- the user involved was not permanently blocked, but at worst directed to select a different name. I believe that the false claim of a permanent ba, directed at an inexperienced user, violates the WP:BITE policy, as pointed out in the {{WP:AN/I]] thread on this subject, and I hope that the user will refrain from such behavior, which certainly appears on first glance to be mean-spirited, in the future.
