Pama International is an eight-piece band from the UK. They describe themselves as 'Dub Fuelled Ska Rocksteady & Reggae'. They often play with ska, dub and reggae artists such as Jimmy Cliff, Prince Buster, Lee Perry, Rico Rodriguez, The Skatalites, Toots & The Maytals, Mad Professor, Don Letts, Madness, Channel One Sound System and Easy Star All-stars.
They're neither too modern in sound nor too retro. As their mix of influences would infer they take elements from many sources to produce their sound whilst broadly staying within the reggae format. Pama International has enjoyed plenty of critical acclaim, and their audiences enjoy their shows as typified by a relaxed 'come-as-you-are' atmosphere.
2006 saw them become the first new band in 30 years to sign to the legendary Trojan Records. The resulting release boasted a line-up of vintage ska and reggae guests including; Rico Rodriguez, Dennis Alcapone, Dawn Penn, Derrick Morgan and the first recording since the 1970's from Dave and Ansel Collins.
Their line-up in 2006 was as follows:
Finny - lead vocalist, Sean Flowerdew - keyboards, Lynval Golding - guitar/vocals, Kirk Service - bass, Fuzz Townshend - drums, Simon Wilcox - trumpet, Marli - guitar, Nick Manasseh - dub stylings
