You put your nomination in the wrong place; I fixed it, see Wikipedia:Picture peer review/Renewable energy in Iceland. In the future, please follow the instructions closely.

[edit] Iceland informal assessment

I'm reluctant to do a full review of Iceland for its GA candidacy, so you might consider this to be an informal assessment.

One thing that struck me right away is the lack of a history section. I looked at every other GA country article, and without exception they have a history section (it's usually the first section, right after the introduction.) Iceland has a bit of history data tucked into the Demographics and Politics sections, and there is a nice selection of rather comprehensive history articles in the template at the bottom of the page, but there should be a summary-form history (with {{seealso}} links to the in-depth articles) in the main article.

There are also a couple of references that are a bit off; number 11, in particular, needs to be formatted correctly as it is not possible to follow the link since the reference link at the bottom is blank.

Other than that, it appears to be well-written, well-referenced, and well-rounded. But without a history section, I personally could not recommend it for GA status. Horologium t-c 20:57, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

The Iceland article does have a history section. In fact, I wrote it myself, as it was one of the most glaring omissions when I started fixing the article. It's right here, for your viewing pleasure :). It was under section 5, but I moved it to the top of the article, to be in line with other country articles. Also fixed the dodgy references. Will you consideration formal assessment now? -- Palthrow 17:19, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Wow, I feel like an idiot. (wry grin) Don't know how I missed that, although it's better where it is now. It'll need to be resubmitted, (because of the GA fail by the other editor) but here are a couple more quibbles:
  • Consider merging the cities and towns section into the Administrative divisions section right above it. The cities and towns "paragraph" is just one short sentence, which doesn't justify a section of its own. Alternatively, you could try and beef that section up, but I don't know if that is worth the effort.
  • In a similar vein, there are a lot of one sentence paragraphs. The MoS guide on paragraphs notes that one-sentence paragraphs are generally frowned upon.
  • A lot of the information in that enormous "See also" section is linked to in the {{Iceland topics}} template at the bottom. Consider trimming out some of the duplication in that section, because it dominates the article, which is a bad idea for a supplemental section. Horologium t-c 17:40, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Geothermal Power plant image

If you answer some editor's questions on Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/NesjavellirPowerPlant.jpg, it is likely to become a featured picture. If you don't answer those questions, I'm not sure if the image will become featured or not. I noticed that you deleted some comments on this talk page, including my previous notice that I'd nominated the power plant image and another user's questions about the image. It would have been nice if you would have replied to (or archived) those comments instead of deleting them. Enuja 22:39, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:SveinbjornSveinbjornsson.jpg

Could you state the source of the image and the reasoning behind the copyright tag? Haukur 17:46, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Can't remember where I dug it up. But Sveinbjorn Sveinbjornsson born in 1847 -- he is certainly no more than 35 at the time this photograph is taken, which puts the date of creation somewhere around 1890 at the very latest. This predates WIPO copyright laws of author's lifetime plus 70 years, which is not retroactive, to my best knowledge. Hence this photo is public domain material. But your new image is a much better one, so I'm fine with you tossing it out. -- Palthrow
Okay, thanks. The laws are in fact retroactive, however, so an image created in 1890 can be still in copyright if the artist lived for 48 years after making it. Also note that US laws are tricky and not based only on the death date of the author. Haukur 22:29, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Icelandic bills

A lot of the images of Icelandic bills have been deleted. Do you still have them on your hard disk? Or should I try to get an admin to bring them back. They can and should be uploaded to Commons. --Steinninn 13:53, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don't have them on my HD. But they can be found on a number of currency hobbyist websites -- I found them with some thorough googling. -- Palthrow 08:47, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nesjavellir

Dear Palthrow, I was stimulated by your impressive picture of Nesjavellir to write a small article in the German Wikipedia on Nesjavellir. I added another picture which I have cropped from a brochure issued by Orkuveita Reykjavíkur displaying the power plant in the winter but I am not sure about the copyright. I wanted to ask you if you could perhaps provide other public domain images on the Nesjavellir power plant?

Best regards --Furfur 25-Nov-2007 14:13 CEST —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.123.65.161 (talk) 13:17, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

I didn't take the Nesjavellir picture -- I merely obtained permission from its author to release into the public domain. I can talk to the author of the original picture and see if he has more that he would like to donate, but I can't promise anything. -- Palthrow (talk) 10:06, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. Furfur 4-Dec-2007 10:13 CEST

[edit] Christianization of Iceland :)

Thank you.

And by the way, it turns out "scuffle" is the Norse form of Anglo-Saxon "shuffle."  :) --VKokielov (talk) 21:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 7 May 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Stöðulög, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
