There is no yuppification in Palmer. YUPPIE is an acronym for Young Urban Profesional. There are no young urban professionals in Palmer (in fact, there are virtually none in Western MA.) It is a working-class town with a smattering of middle-class refugees from Springfield who have moved to the rural areas of the town. Downtown Palmer is a beat-up shell of a town with little to offer save for a CVS.

Palmer was named the winner of the "armpit of Western Mass." award on a local radio show. And for good reason.
