Palmerston North (New Zealand electorate)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Palmerston North is an electorate in New Zealand.

[edit] Pluralist electorate

The 'old' electorate of Palmerston North under the "first past the post" system included the city of Palmerston North, except for the suburbs of Roslyn and Palmerston North Hospital Area and the southern bank of the Manawatu River (which were part of the Manawatu electorate).

[edit] Mixed Member Proportional electorate

The 'new' electorate of Palmerston North includes the city of Palmerston North, except for the suburbs of Cloverlea, Milson, Kelvin Grove, Whakarongo and Ashhurst, however the elctorate does include Linton, Aokautere, Turitea and Massey University.

The latter were once part of the electorate of Manawatu, however with the advent of the introduction of Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting in 1996, the boundaries were redrawn.
