Palmeira dos Índios

Coordinates: 09°24′25″S, 36°37′40″W Palmeira dos Índios is a municipality located in the western of the Brazilian state of Alagoas. Its population is 69,466 (2005) and its area is 461 km²[1].

The city is situated on Alagoas backwood region. A famous Brazilian writer, Graciliano Ramos, was its mayor in 1927. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Palmeira dos Índios.
