Palatine Community Sports College

Palatine Community Sports College is a school in South Shore, Blackpool, Lancashire. The standards of the school have increased over the past years, with the aid of a National Lottery Grant enabling the transformation of the High School into a Community Sports College. Mathematics and Physical Education provide the greater League Table results, with other subjects increasingly improving year-on-year.

The school over the summer of 2007 had many improvements done, as part of the standard increasing. Thus Making as well as improving it to a better and sufficent standard, this giving the students a better standard of learning in the school. Palatine holds many performance shows around the main holiday periods, which are highly regarded by. Dance and Drama shows are a regular participant in the schools diary. Palatine has been given more funding by the local council to uphold the level and exceed it but only if they meet certain requirements. competition Over the past couple years the school holds interhouse competitions where the students are placed at the start of the year into a house group and they compete in many different events to gain more points for the school and at the end of the year the house with the most points wins and are given prizes. The school give individual prizes for the person who gains the most points and students who also achieve a 100% attendance.
Palatine as of Winter 2007, Have started work on designing and building the new astro and all weather pitches to the rear of the school, this will mean better surfaces and conditions for Physical Education.

Palatine offers many subjects at the school. English, Maths, science, P.E, Design Tec, Art, I.C.T, Music, Drama, History, Geography & R.E. At G.C.S.E there are new expansive subjects are available, B-Tec sport, Dance, Awards(sport), sociology, other subjects are open to a double award, With a double award only one extra subject can be chosen.
[edit] Leisure Centre
Palatine community sports college is now the given name for the school from the past couple of years, after having a new Leisure centre built upon the grounds. Palatine also had a new library placed at the school, furthering the education for the children in many subjects.
The £6.5 million centre was opened on the 13th February 2006 by Tessa Jowell.
Due to the building of the sports centre, Palatine has been able to expand the sports they provide for the children in P.E. Palatine recently opened a new G.C.S.E course to the students, B-Tec first diploma in sport.

Palatine community sports college this year had the highest number of students passing G.C.S.E with 5 or more G.C.S.E.S, (39 %) this number is increasing each year at the school and is showing the effort by all members of staff at the school to earn a pass for the students at the school.
[edit] The Ofstead inspection
The latest Ofsted Inspection reported the school to be 'an improving and increasingly popular school where standards and achievements are rising' and this has been shown in the recent results in exams. The Ofstead inspection is the first inspection in 6 years, the national average is 3 years,this proving the massive amount of improvement at the school.

In September 2006 a pupil at Palatine community sports college, was playing and accidentally fell and hit his head of a bench, he later died that day. Palatine since have put a plaque up for the student, forever remembering him.
[edit] Ex Remembered Pupil
On the 7th September 2006 a former pupil of the school was killed during action in Iraq. Gunner Lee Thornton died after being shot, He is a hero to all and forever will be remembered, this is so as Palatine has recognised his services and now are rewarding ex pupils with a Lee Thornton award on their annual achievement evening. He did the country and the school proud, forever he shall live.
