As of 2001 India census[2], Palamedu had a population of 8187. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Palamedu has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 54%. In Palamedu, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Palamedu was one of the villages where early Nadar community migrants from South Tamilnadu settled down while settling in so many other villages like Pattiveeranpatti, Palayampatti, Sathangudi, Sholavandhan, Saalichandhai, Bodi and formed uravinmurais which resulted in formation community run schools in these villages.
