Palace of the King Zog I, was actually funded by the local businessmen of Durres and given to King Zog I as a gift. It is the highest point in the city, and due to this fact, some antenas for mobile communication are installed on the top, for better coverage.
After the communist came to power, palace was confiscated and used as a residence during official visits from the government. After the communist regime collapsed, the palace was still used for government purposes.
During 1997 revolts, the palace was looted, all the furniture was stolen by the nearby residents. The palace today still remains a symbol of Durres.
