[edit] re : Template French commune
Hello, I will try to explain (if you have trouble with English, I speak French well also, but my Spanish however is medium)
- To place the red dot on the map you need to enter the x and y values into the template. The values of x and y are the pixel numbers on the map. The top left pixel is x=0, y=0.
- I took as reference points, x=66, y=50, and x=241, y=202. These points correspond to points which are easy to identify and as far apart as possible.
- Next I did x=241-66=175 and y=202-50=152 This is the distance in between the 2 points in pixels
- Next on Google Earth I measured the distance in between the 2 points in latitude and longitude.
Thus I was able to find 1° latitude = 27.44 pixels and 1° longitude = 18.24 pixels
- Next I took a reference point close to the center of France (least distortion), and which was easily identifiable (x=157, y=137), I got the Long and Lat of this point on Google Earth, and derived the formula from this.
- Finally remember to subtract 6.5 because the image of the red dot is 13x13 pixels, and we want it to be centered on the location.
Hope that helped. Jackaranga 16:33, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
