Paintbrush is a MacPaint copy, but it supports color. Alpha channel in images can be opened with Paintbrush, but cannot be created. When you draw over alpha channel and undo, the change "sticks" onto the alpha channel but doesn't ruin your image after saving, the alpha channel stays. Paintbrush is a .app (Mac OS X application), so it only works on Mac OS X. Unlike other programs, like Paint (software), alpha channel isn't shown as black, it's shown as white and sometimes changes when you edit an image.
