[edit] Content

The narrator describes an encounter on the beach with an artist who is painting ocean scenes. The singer then asks the painter to paint a picture of the plans that the man and his lost lover had made:

"Paint me a Birmingham
Make it look just the way I planned
A little house on the edge of town
Porch goin' all the way around
Put her there in the front yard swing
Cotton dress, make it early spring
For awhile she'll be mine again
If you can paint me a Birmingham."

[edit] Other versions

  • Ken Mellons recorded a version of the song on his 2004 album Sweet. Mellons' version peaked at #54 in early 2004, while Lawrence's version was also climbing the charts.
