[edit] Content
The narrator describes an encounter on the beach with an artist who is painting ocean scenes. The singer then asks the painter to paint a picture of the plans that the man and his lost lover had made:
- "Paint me a Birmingham
- Make it look just the way I planned
- A little house on the edge of town
- Porch goin' all the way around
- Put her there in the front yard swing
- Cotton dress, make it early spring
- For awhile she'll be mine again
- If you can paint me a Birmingham."
[edit] Other versions
- Ken Mellons recorded a version of the song on his 2004 album Sweet. Mellons' version peaked at #54 in early 2004, while Lawrence's version was also climbing the charts.
- On his 2005 album Bipolar and Proud, country music parodist Cledus T. Judd parodied the song as "Bake Me a Country Ham".
