I argue that all are fair use because they are used to promote the titleholders pictured and that no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information (as stated in the fair use tag).
All have been tagged as "replacable fair use images" and I strongly dispute this - the only source of fair use images for these titleholders are .mil and .gov sites when they may make appearances with the military - which happens very rarely. The only other possibility is that I ask some of the titleholders who have sent me photos whether they could freely license them but I feel somewhat uncomfortable about this.
- You should not "feel uncomfortable" about this. Wikipedia is already strong enough to ask for such things. See WP:COPYREQ for instrunctions on how to proceed in such cases. --Abu Badali 10:12, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- The point is, "you feeling uncomfortable to ask" is not enough of a reason to believe it is impossible to create a free image for these ladies. --Abu Badali 10:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Image:KatieBlair.jpg was reviewed by User:Quadell on September 1, 2006 and deemed acceptable. -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 04:24, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- The Wikipedia's fair use guidelines were updated on September 9 to make a clarification of a (very common) mistaken interpretation of item #1 in Wikipedia:Fair use criteria. User:Quadell, acting in good faith, may have based his review on this mistaken interpretation. You should ask him again about this one. --Abu Badali 10:12, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
The reason I did not delete Image:KatieBlair.jpg was that the image shows her in the 2006 Miss Teen USA pageant, which the article mentions. The image is not only of Ms. Blair; it is also an image of a non-repeatable event. But if the photo were only of Ms. Blair, the image would have to be deleted.
I'm afraid Abu is correct. We generally can't use non-free images of living people on Wikipedia, because it is almost always possible to create a free image with the same information. It may not be easy, but it's possible. So these images will have to be deleted. Sorry. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:00, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

- Oh boy, this is going to mean close to 100 images that need replacing. Can someone tell me what exactly I need to ask people for to get a free license on pictures? Thanks... -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 20:22, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for being understanding about all this. Wikipedia:Example requests for permission may help. Also, if you can find pictures of the subjects at a specific and important pageant, then we may be able to use those photographs (so long as the image is used in an article that mentions the event prominantly).
