[edit] Who are we?
Memorial Middle School for Girls is a private, independent, non-profit school for grades five through eight.
[edit] Our Mission
To provide an academic program that allows girls to prepare for High School and instill in them a desire to become lifelong learners. To provide those girls growing up in an impoverished inner city neighborhood with a high quality education that helps break the cycle of poverty.
[edit] Background
To provide a high quality education to middle school age students who have the potential to succeed academically, but who had no alternative to their local public schools. To make up for their grade level deficits, the school day was lengthened and the year extended. A graduate support system will be established to follow the students through high school to ensure that they keep the study habits and work ethic instilled whilst at the Middle Schhool.
[edit] The Model
Memorial Middle School for Girls, will open August 27 2007 to a class of fifth grade girls and will, over the next four years add a grade per year until grades 5-8 are enrolled.
The Memorial Middle School for Girls will offer individual attention in small classes, that encourage each individual to reach her full potential. A rigorous extended day and extended school year, designed to serve those who are being left behind. Memorial will endeavor to reclaim the girls whose needs are not being met in the urban public school.
Girls may face a long struggle against a double daemon of racism and sexism; a strong education could help her confront that future. For the girls it is an opportunity to become a successful, respected member of the community facing the future well prepared and with confidence.
[edit] Eligibility
Approximately 90% of the students qualify for the Federal Government's Free and Reduced Cost Lunch program, an indication that a family is living at or near poverty
[edit] Local Support
With the support of Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church who are providing our accommodation we embark on a mission to transform the life of a community and of a family by transforming each child through education.
The Judeo Christian values imparted at Memorial will include respect for the dignity and potential of each person, responsibility for those in need, a strong sense of community and the promotion of social justice. Neither race, ethnicity nor a child’s religious faith will ever be a factor in admission.
[edit] Open a door
Hope - is what Memorial Middle School for Girls aims to give.
Opportunity - is what Memorial aims to give every child determined enough to succeed.
Please join us in making this mission a reality. Help us make it possible and help us make it successful.
We would be delighted to meet with you to discuss our mission, community and families. Once school opens we hope you would take the opportunity to visit us. We look forward to seeing you at Memorial Middle School for Girls.
Saving lives one child at a time.
