Pablo Fajardo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pablo Fajardo Mendoza (often, Pablo Fajardo) is an Ecuadorian native who was raised in extreme poverty. He put himself through law school and became the lead lawyer representing thousands of natives in Ecuador affected by Texaco and its successor Chevron Corporation's dumping of toxic waste water, seeking to clean up 1,700 square miles of polluted rain forest.

He won a CNN "Hero's award" in 2007,[1] and along with associate Luis Yanza, a Goldman Environmental Prize in 2008[2] In the wake of the latter prize Chevron launched an international publicity campaign accusing Fajardo of dishonesty and greed.[3]
