Main India article
Dear PKNiyogi...Saw some of your contributions...am kind of new...but I still feel that the Main India article is written from a British/Western point of view. From an Indian point of view, we always see the UK/PT/FR as foreigners and occupiers. I thus feel that we should adopt another POV in which we denigrate the British view and put more emphasis on the history of India before the British came...so that India is continuous since Indus Valley Civilization and not overnight from 1947...I already had some discussion with users IndianStar, NobleEagle, Chanakyathegreat...and they agree, however, the British writer Fowler always negates all these opinions and puts in the British POV with the guise of Encyclopaedia Britannica references. I thus urge you to refurbish the India main paragraph and remove even the word British and put more emphasis on Indus Valley Civilization...and India's first emperor Ashoka...and maintain the continuity since 5000 years. The British maybe just referred to as foreign occupiers. Basically even the word British is derogatory in the India article... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 218.186.8.10 (talk) 04:38, 1 April 2007 (UTC).

Hi PK,
Thanks for that, I sorted out the citations. The abbreviations are the primary source documents from the Pali Canon. However the main article was from the Pali Dictionary which I hadn't heard of that Sacca is using. It seems to be great! I will use it myself in future. Portal:Current events/India
I have one request. As you update the news portion of Portal:West Bengal, could you provide some of your time for Portal:Current events/India. You can do just the news updating. The process is automated, in the sense just the news of last seven days would appear (see the "India in this week..." section). Everyday a red link automatically appears. One has to make a page for that link. Please see this advice on what to do with that red link. A new page should be created, a template needs to be inserted and saved (the template is given in the above link). Then again the page needs to be edited, in ordehnicr to add news items, then saved. That's it. The main portal would automatically display.
For the section "Highlights", selected news items from "this week..." section can be used. If you have some problem, please ask me. I may not be able to answer everything (as I also do not understand all the technical stuffs). However I may try to get the answer. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Re:Portal:Current events/India
Hi! I have answers to your questions. The past news would go to respective articles April 2007 in India, March 2007 in India etc. I have tried my best to fix them. You will see these articles belong to the Category:2007 in India. However the category does not have articles for January or February, because those articles were never created! The Indian current events portal is in a bad state. It needs regular maitenance. I did the technical stuffs as far as I could. I have requested some other people to do the technical stuffs.
For the time being, lets\'s just add news items for April. The red link that appears each day should be worked upon, following the guidelines. Probably the in the Indian portal the red links appear earlier than the global portal (time difference?). I am not sure. Whatever be the case, the red link should be clicked and subportals created in the line of earlier dates. I am now creating the page for 5 April.
I hope by April, the portal would be stabilised. Then, past months can be worked upon for archival purpose. Will try to introduce some more automation. Let's see what happens. However, for the time being our goal is to add news items regularly, which is the primary requirement. Archival procedures/automation can be worked upon slowly. Regards and Thanks.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:05, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes a new red link will appear everyday. If previous red links have not been worked upon, those will also stay there (till it gets automatically removed after a period of 7 days). Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:29, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks a lot for your efforts in portal:India. However, if I may suggest, portal:India needs you more than the WB portal. First, the India current events has got a much wider audience than WB portal. Next, it is somewhat automated. One thing we can do. Update the WB portal not on a daily basis, but rather, say, twice a week. What do you say?
- Yes, I have ceased working on JC Bose. You can try to uplift the article to FA status. You have the material, it just needs the time. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes yes, that's that would be best. It will be best for the portal, and also you will be able to do many more works. Bye the way, have you been in touch with Antorjal lately? He seems to have vanished into the thin air! While you are doing great job in covering articles related to West Bengal (and India), it's been a long time we had a quality improvement drive for any West Bengal related article (sort of euphemism for FAC :)). Hope to see JC Bose soon :) Do you have any idea/suggestion which articles may be further worked upon? Well, any article can be, but ones with available web resources are easy to work upon. Any idea?--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:39, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Portal India News
Hello PKN, Thanks for updating the news section on WP:PIN. Can you please add the news article link for each news event? It will be useful to the reader who wants to read more information and will serve as a reference. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 07:28, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- I meant a link to the newspaper article at the end of each event. For example the following event links to NDTV (any one news source is enough),
-
- Six rhinos (pictured) killed in Kaziranga National Park, global poachers involved. (NDTV)
Thanks for the detailed response. It is better to be consistent with the Portal:Current events and have no links. Can I suggest that news events need have atleast one internal link that leads to an article. If the reader wants to learn more, he/she can click the link and find out. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 05:08, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- I feel you should continue to do what you are doing. If articles about news events do not exist, we should link a relevant article. But we should avoid adding events with no internal links at all. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 22:14, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Panjika_1.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Panjika_1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:40, 17 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. howcheng {chat} 23:40, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

You have been doing great job in Wikipedia for quite some time. You should be somewhat conversant in basic wikipedia policies and guidelines. Are you interested in adminship? I am asking you because we need admins, in general, and Indian admins, in particular. Many Indian administrators are not available for real life/other reasons. Do you frequent pages like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion? Having experience in those pages help in WP:RFA, as you might have noticed. A new wiki just for India
www.indianotebook.org/wiki
Hey P.K.Niyogi, I noticed that you were interested in editing India articles. I just wanted to tell you about a new wiki that a friend and I have created called India Notebook, the url of which is above. A description of our site is as follows (copy-pasted from the main page): About Us: The ultimate aim of India Notebook is to document each and every little thing in India. From shops to restaurants to your local paanwalla in your hometown, India Notebook will have an entry on it so that anytime you find yourself wanting to go to, say, a new restaurant in your town, just log on, search for restaurants in your town and browse away. All we need is a little help from you. Just add all your favourite hangouts, restaurants etc etc and slowly but surely, we will have documented everything there is to see and do in India for anyone to reference, anywhere and anytime. Soon a visitor to Bombay will be able to simply come here and check out the hottest clubs, best eateries and coolest Museums without buying a guidebook. Anything and everything you want to know about a city will be right here, written by the locals.
Come and contribute. Review your favourite pubs/restaurants so that people get up-to-date information about any place in india from the locals. And also tell any friends of yours who edit wikipedia to come help out here. We're also thinking of integrating Google maps into the site, so that you can view the location of any place described on the site. Don't hesitate to contact me at chaita@gmail.com

Portal:Current events/India
Hi! You are doing a wonderful job for the portal. Nobody can replace you. If you think highlights are supposed to be linked to Wikipedia news articles but there are hardly any, do not worry. You create the news and highlights, and leave red links if needed. One cannot do all the article creations. But that does not mean news cannot be updated. You leave the red links, somebody may go on to create the article (there is a fair chance, since the highlights also appear in Portal:India). If no one does, let it just be a red link, hoping one day it would be turned blue.
Please please do not quit the job. Whatever you do is going to enhance wikipedia in general, and India portal in particular. Regards. --Dwaipayan (talk) 10:33, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Lanka (disambiguation)
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Lanka (disambiguation), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
Hi - since there are only 2 uses of Lanka, i suggest we cross-refer them. in case we have additional uses of the term in the future, we can bring this back. please revert. Kalyan 18:14, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Biasing of Indian articles
Dear P.K. Niyogi,
I am requesting your assistance in dealing with a user who routinely biases indian articles by interweaving discredited colonial theories, original research, and fanwank.
- He has knitted together 3 maps (2 of which are inaccurate and mischaracterized) and stated that the indo greeks ruled all over northern india and parts of the deccan[[2]]
- He has rejected compromise and reneged on agreements.
- He has committed original research violations by interpreting primary sources directly and has created inaccurate maps that he changes at his own whim)[[3]]
- He has wrongly credited foreign influences on india ranging from astronomy (he originally wrote that the greeks gave india astronomy) to mahayana buddhism
- He wrote that the greeks helped chandragupta conquer the nandas (contradicted by eminent scholars)
- He engages in fanwank (i.e. Yamuna page where he insists that seleucus' campaigns be mentioned, even when he did not reach the yamuna, simply because people who like greek history--as he does--would find that interesting. Must we add the british, dutch, and turkish discoveries as well?)
As such, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. If you could please add your support in my appeal to the wikipedia administration in correcting the Indo Greek article (which he rules as a personal fiefdom), that would make a big difference. His work is quietly diluting the accuracy and quality of indian articles, and I truly hope we can put end to that. Users vastu, pavanapuram, windy city dude, and mahitgar have already called that contributor's practices into question. Your assistance and voice would be welcome. Thank you for your time and understanding.
