[edit] History
PIMBA was founded in 1996, holding the same philosophy it does to this day. From the original seventeen member bands, the organization has grown to include nearly 30 bands for the 2007 season. While membership has grown, the organization has included many schools outside of the immediate Pittsburgh area. The organization holds competitions at participating band's home field throughout the months of September to late October.
[edit] Operation
PIMBA uses similar scoring techniques as other marching band organizations. This includes a panel of judges, both on field and in the press box. Each band is divided into a section based on size. They score each band based on music, visual performance, and general effect. This scores are combined to give a total score out of a possible 100 points. The band with the highest score in their class is the winner. At the final championship competition, the winner of each section is crowned as the state champions for that particular season.
