[edit] History
[edit] Early Life (1983 - 2000)
Patrick Coleridge-Taylor was born on 1st December, 1983 at Whittington Hospital in London, England, and first took music up as a hobby during his time at primary school, where he took lessons in playing both the recorder and the guitar (in addition to occasionally writing songs of his own in his spare time)[2].
After moving on from primary school (in July 1995) and having always been more enthusiastic about football, Patrick 'accidentally' got back into music (in Summer, 1998) towards the end of his time at secondary school (because it was the only class that still had available places when he arrived late on the day that the students in his academic year were scheduled to confirm which subjects they would be taking as part of their G.C.S.E studies). It was here that Patrick was formally introduced to composing, arranging and writing music / songs. Henceforth, making music gradually went from being just another school subject / hobby to eventually becoming a genuine passion for him.
[edit] Formation (2001)
In April 2001 (almost a year after completing his G.C.S.Es), having been inspired by the general lack of artistic creativity amongst the popular Hip-Hop artists / producers of the time, Patrick took on the moniker of 'Trik' (a play on the word / short for 'Patrick') and began to write and perform Hip-Hop songs of his own. Patrick eventually went on to replace the name 'Trik' with his initials, P.C.T, because rather than being just another musical 'act' (in a theatrical sense), he wanted to show that he would just be himself (and thus use his initials as his 'stage name')[3].
As well as developing his knowledge of the inner workings of the music industry by temporarily doing some part-time work as a 'roadie' / 'street team' worker for popular U.K-based Hip-Hop DJ Tim Westwood, P.C.T continued to develop as a songwriter / producer despite the unstable circumstances of his life (which, for example, forced him to leave the Popular Music course which he was studying at City & Islington College after four months in January 2003). That said, after completing a 6-month music production / music business course with the Midi Music Company in New Cross, London, P.C.T finally felt prepared to take up a long-term career within the music industry, and thus established his own independent record label through which to do so... Danger Money Records.
[edit] Danger Money Records (2003 - present)
P.C.T's first unofficial promotional single, "You Know What To Do", was never released but it was played by various DJs on various underground radio stations in Winter 2004. His second unofficial promotional single, "Danger Money Black Gang Shine", which was a feature / collaboration with local up-and-coming producer "Poppa Sprinkle" was also never released. However, it was played by various DJs on various commercial and underground radio stations (such as DJ 279 and Phoebe One on Choice FM, Dan Greenpeace on XFM and others) in addition to having been played at the 'Sound' nightclub in Leicester Square, London, during Summer 2005.
P.C.T's third unofficial promotional single (which was the first to be digitally released, on 28th March, 2006), "Block To The Bar", was yet another feature / collaboration, but this time it was done with the duo of local up-and-coming producer 'Dnyce' and rapper 'Strategy' and was played by various DJs on a number of underground radio stations[4].
P.C.T's fourth unofficial promotional single, "Life Is A Gift", was a feature / collaboration with the trio of Defiance, Young Kof and Pyro (all of whom record as part of the Liverpool-based independent record label 'Urbeatz') and was played on commercial radio stations (such as BBC Radio 1Xtra) as well as numerous underground radio stations, further to being released as a free download via all of the featured artists' "MySpace" webpages in Summer 2006.
P.C.T's first official single, "Here We Go (Finally)" was digitally released on 7th May, 2007 and the video for it was played on Sky Digital (UK & Ireland) channels such as BEN Television and Channel U TV[5].
His second official single, "Keep It Gully (v.2)", which was released on 14th January, 2008, has been played on commercial radio stations by DJs such as Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 as well as various underground radio stations[6].
Further to all of this, P.C.T has appeared in numerous press publications such as Whats Poppin (August / September 2006), Invincible Magazine (April-May 2006), StreetCred Magazine, BaseAd and Touch Magazine (Volume 4 Number 7, April 2007).
[edit] Musical Style
P.C.T's music has a futuristic / cutting-edge / avant-garde sound from both a lyrical and musical point of view, and thus shows his creative genius whilst reflecting his abstract artistic nature as well as his eclectic taste in music (by displaying his Electronica / Hip-Hop / Rock / Dance / Pop / R&B / Classical / Grime / Reggae etc influences, all whilst still being easily identifiable due to his distinctive voice and progressive style of production)[7].
