P.T.R. Palanivel Rajan (Tamil: பழனிவேல் ராஜன்) was an Indian politician.
Rajan was born on February 22, 1932 in Theni in Tamil Nadu. He graduated in Political Science from the prestigious Madras Christian College and then studied Law at Madras Law College and was a practising lawyer before entering politics in 1968 when he joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.[1] He has served as the Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2001.[2] He also was the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments in the Government of Tamil Nadu briefly before his death on May 20, 2006 at the age of 74.[3] He was also an MLC twice. His family was instrumental in the reconstruction of the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple after a fire destroyed it over a century ago.Madurai Kamaraj University conferred the Doctor of Law on him (Honoris Causa) in 1997.[4] His father P. T. Rajan had served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
