P. N. Menon

P. N. Menon P.N. Menon is an artist and Malayalam movie director. He came into cinema as an art director and poster designer, and then branched out into direction.

His 1969 movie Olavum Theeravum (The Wave and The Shore) is considered to have heralded the new wave movement of the 1970s and 80s in the Malayalam movies. It won the Kerala State Award for the best film. Perhaps his most successful commercial film was Chembarathy (Hibiscus Flower) which was made from a script by Malayattoor Ramakrishnan and starred new comers like Raghavan, Sudhir and Roja Ramani (Sobhana) along with veteran actors like Madhu and Rani Chandra. Another script of Malayatoor Ramakrishnan named Gayathri which was directed by him was awarded the President's National Awards Medal for National Integration.

After a long period of absence lasting more than a decade, he directed a film, Nerkkuneraey (Face to Face) (2004).

He has two daughters and his wife's name is Bharathi Menon. At present he is bedridden with memory loss and stays with his eldest daughter in Cochin,Kerala.
