P. K. Manthry (1933-1984) is a renowned Indian cartoonist from Kerala.
P K Manthry born at Pandalam, in Kerala was a drawing teacher by profession. He drew cartoons mainly for Thaniniram Daily. Rash criticism through his cartoons irritated the then education minister the Late C. H. Muhammad Koya. As a result, P. K. Manthry was under suspension from government service for two and half years from 1969. Pachu, Kovalan, Mr. Kunju etc. are popular cartoon characters created by Manthry.. Manthri was he most popular people’s Cartoonist in Kerala. Born on 21st May 1933 as the son of Pulikkeril Kesavan and Kotchikkamma of Kulanada in Pandalam.. Studied painting from Revi Varma school of Arts Mavelikara and got Diploma. Published Cartoons in Sarasan and Narmada. He was Drawing Master in Govt UPS Pandalam.
Later his works appeared in Mathrubhumi,Janayugam, Malayala nad Malayal Rajyam and Manorajyam.
Mr.Kunju, Patchu & Kovalanand Kotchu Paruwere his popular characters. Manthri himself appeared in many Cartoons. He published political Cartoons during 1967-69 in Thaniniram criticizing Mohammad Koya, then the Education Minister. He was suspended for the Cartoons but he was reinstated after 21/2 years.
