[edit] Summary
Image is of a P-51D "Tika IV" 361st fg that was taken by a US government employee during World War II and will be used in the infobox of the P-51 article to illustrate the wartime use of the aircraft. This digitized version of the original photograph was found on:http://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/U-S-Air-Force/361st_fg_p_51?full=1
- Here's another image of the same plane on the ground with commander Vernon R. Richards and ground crew. The caption says the aircraft was destroyed 16 November 1944.

- A painted "aviation art" interpretation of this exact photo can be found here. Paul Nikolic is listed as the holder of further information about it. 361st FG Aviation Art
Apparently identical image appears at littlefriends.co.uk website along with attribution to Al Richards, brother of pilot Lt. Vernon R Richards. "Tika IV" at 361st Fighter Group Gallery
This photo appears on page 145 in the book Best of the National Air and Space Museum by F. Robert Van Der Linden (ISBN 0060851554). The caption in the book says the photo was taken somewhere over England in 1944-45, though the aircraft was reported by 361FG as destroyed in November 1944, making the book's caption somewhat suspect. [edit] Licensing
This work is in the public domain in the United States because it is a work of the United States Federal Government under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code. See Copyright. This image appears at littlefriends.co.uk website gallery with credit for the photo given to Al Richards, reportedly the brother of the pictured pilot Lt. Vernon R Richards. It's assumed Al Richards received the photo from his brother's estate. The photographer is most likely another US serviceman flying formation with Lt. Vernon R Richards. The PD-USGov Licensing is based on this assumption.
