[edit] History
The decision to create a new gaming magazine surfaced when the core writers of Level left the magazine after Doğan Burda overtook Vogel Burda Publishing. At September, ex-Level writers contacted their readers at their personal blogs and announced that they started to work for the creation of the new magazine. The enthusiasm of the readers were peaked when the name of this new magazine was proposed by them: Oyungezer [2]. After the name was announced, the official website got opened to the public. Approximately a thousand people signed up at the first day.[3] The experienced team started to work on the first issue at October and added new writers Ali Sezgin, Mert Hakkı Bingöl and Yiğitcan Erdoğan as freelances. First issue got released at November and sold 7000 copies, which is a record for a first issue of a gaming magazine. [4]
[edit] Sections
Oyungezer has various sections. The preview section of the magazine is named "360drc" and it's run by Serpil Ulutürk, who is the editor-in-chief of Oyungezer. After the 360drc section, Oyunezer comes (which is a pun on the magazine's name, "ezmek" means humiliating in Turkish and "gezmek" means travelling.) in which various editors humiliate and criticise flaws in the industry in a humorous way. The review section comes after Oyunezer and is divided in two, PC and Consoles. The Console part is overseen by Emin Barış, and is named Console Master. The console section includes PS2, PS3, XBox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP reviews. After the review section, the strategy guides created by Güven Brothers (Eser and Erce) can be seen. And after that, the Online section is present, which's editor is Göker Nurbeyler. This section mainly focuses on MMO games, but does not review them, they still get reviewed at the review section. Instead, this part is comprised of news, beta tests and features such as relationships at Online games. The magazine also has an official guild at World of Warcraft.
Between the sections directly about video games and sections that are not, editors have personal columns. Göktuğ Yüksel writes N.E.M. (short for Nothing Else Matters), a reference to the Metallica song) while Tuğbek Ölek writes Cesur Yeni Dünya (the Turkish title of Brave New World, representing Ölek's admiration of Aldous Huxley). Serpil Ulutürk writes "Rüya Tamirleri" and Sinan Akkol writes Had Safhada.
The hardware sections is named "Organize Sanayi" and is written by Tuğbek Ölek, Kaan Alkın and Olgay Ertez. This section includes hardware tests and guides, and a part in which writers try to help readers' technical problems. This is not the only section in which an editor answers reader mail, another mailing section named "Posta İdaresi" is present, in which Mehmet Kentel answers reader mails regardless of their topic (about games or other stuff.). And at the very back, a section named "Pixel" is devoted to old video games and is overseen by Volkan Turan. It's followed by legendary Gameshow editor Muammer "Muder" Derebaşı's own section, titled "En SevdiğiM.". There he writes on various topics, usually not about video games.
[edit] Promotions
Oyungezer magazine gives a free DVD which includes 8 gbs of gaming material. They boast a wide range of free demos and trials, giving demos like Hellgate: London and Unreal Tournament 3 before their peers and offering various free trials like Guild Wars: Trilogy. Oyungezer also gives other promotions as well, including a Gameforge e-pin worth of 5 YTLs which can be used in Gameforge browser games like OGame, and a giant World of Warcraft poster.
[edit] Review System
In Oyungezer, the minimum score a game can get is 0.0 and the maximum score is 10.0. The best score the magazine has awarded until now is 9.9, given to Grand Theft Auto IV by Tuğbek Ölek. The previous record was held by Crysis with 9.7.
