Oxford University Mountaineering Club

The Oxford University Mountaineering Club (OUMC) was formed in 1909, by Arnold Lunn, a student at the time.
The club has had much involvement in the development of mountaineering in the United Kingdom, and many famous climbers were members of OUMC. Andrew Irvine was at Merton College, and a member of the OUMC at the time of his fateful attempt to climb Everest with George Mallory. Michael Westmacott was also a member of the OUMC, and was responsible for the oxygen equipment on the first successful expedition to Everest in 1953.
