Ovingham (pronounced Ŏvin-juhm) is a civil parish and village in the Tyne Valley in south Northumberland. It lies on the River Tyne 16 kilometres (10 miles) east of Hexham with neighbours Prudhoe, Ovington, Wylam and Stocksfield.
St Mary church has a late Saxon tower and fine 13th century lancet windows. In the porch is a stone slab commemorating Thomas Bewick who is buried in the churchyard.
Ovingham Bridge, which crosses the River Tyne, was built in 1883. The steel tubes are marked Dorman Long Middlesbrough, the firm which designed and built the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Tyne Bridge..
For such a small place, Ovingham has made quite a contribution to popular music in recent years. The punk-rock band China Drum formed in Ovingham in 1989, and more recently Rob Barker of Newcastle upon Tyne-based post-rock act Peace Burial at Sea grew up in the village.
It has two schools: Ovingham Middle School and Ovingham C. E. First school.
