Oving Villages Cup

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oving Villages Cup, or locally The Oving Cup, run by the Oving and District Villages Football Association in England, is one of the oldest football trophies. It was first played in the season 1889-1890 and was won in that first season by Long Crendon beating the hosts Oving 2-0.

The Oving Cup is played by the representative teams on a knock-out basis; the two finalists then normally meet on Easter Monday at Oving Recreational Ground.

The Cup is open to villages in Buckinghamshire and had strict rules on eligibility of players, such as living in the village for a certain length of time and/or playing for the team for a length of time. These rules have been eased over the last few years, as finding players eligible has become more difficult.

Teams with many wins are Wendover, Waddesdon, Wing and Haddenham
