[edit] Purpose of disambiguation pages
As indicated at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages), "disambiguation pages are solely intended to allow users to choose among several Wikipedia articles, usually when a user searches for an ambiguous term". In addition, when the Manual of Styles says "if the item described appears as part of another page, link to the relevant section of that page", it is not referring to the occurrence of another redlink in a simple list. If links are going to be placed on a disambig page, please be sure they point to actual information (whether an article or a section in an article). Do not replace a redlink with a piped anchor link to a section where the only mention of the subject is another red link. I am removing the link to Southern Pacific Railroad#Passenger train service for the above reasons. Please do not get into a silly revert war. If you want to restore the link, as I said previously, please be sure it links to an article. --Kmsiever 20:59, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
