Oversplits

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The oversplits are basically splits, but instead of being flat on the ground, one leg can be pulled higher, many times at even a 90 degree angle. This move is used by many dancers, gymnasts and contortionists, such as Irina Kazakova. To be able to perform this, extreme flexibility is needed, and often, a personal trainer is used. The jobs of these trainers is to stretch the person until their muscles become numb, allowing them to move more freely. An oversplits can be pulled is the maximum degrees of 270 degrees but some contortionist can perform a 305 degree oversplits farther than any other.
