OV-chipkaart
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The OV-chipkaart is a system which will operate upon all public transport, such as bus, metro, tram and train. Greater Rotterdam area and Amsterdam were the first places to have started using this technology in the Netherlands, however, the entire country will have access to OV-chipkaart by (at the latest) 1 January 2009.
The OV-chipkaart is co-operative initiative of five large public transport operators: Connexxion, the trans-regional bus service, GVB (Amsterdam), HTM (The Hague), the NS (Dutch Railway Company) and the RET (Rotterdam).
In April 2007, Trans Link Systems smart card (OV-chipkaart) was an award recipient in the "Transportation" category of the Computerworld Honors Program Laureate.[1]
