Sorry, but I was only linking articles about musicians to the corresponding artist pages on MusicBrainz, trying to help the [MusicBrainz WikiProject]. That's for sure not spaming. I stopped adding those links for now, but I would like to see this clarified. As I'm not sure if you're reading this I'll post this to your page as well. --OutsideContext Sun 10 Feb 2008 18:55:21 +0100
If you can point me to the consensus where adding all these links was agreed, I will withdraw the warning I gave. In general, external links, however good, are not wanted on Wikipedia; instead, we can use information which is reliable and incorporate it into our own project, in most cases. --John (talk) 18:48, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not so familiar with editing Wikipedia yet and I'm not sure where those things get discussed. I started a discussion on Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard. --OutsideContext (talk) 20:51, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry you found my warning rude. It might have been better to discover whether there was a consensus to add these links before adding them, thus avoiding any warnings. --John (talk) 21:06, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I was a little bit annoyed when I saw that big stop sign together with phrases like only warning. But on the other hand I've been a MusicBrainz editor for quite some time and I know it's sometimes difficult to deal with newbies who don't follow common guidelines. In this case I'm the newbie and maybe I ignored, without knowing it, some rules. But as I see it there is no consensus on this topic, yet. So let's try to reach a solution for this. I'm not sure if there is a better way to approach this but I guess the discussion on the Conflict of interest page is a good way to start. I'm looking forward to hear some more opinions. --OutsideContext (talk) 22:37, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
