Outlanders (The Lion King)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Outlanders are fictional lion characters that appear in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, as the group of Scar's lioness followers, who were exiled by Simba when he defeated Scar. They are led by a lioness named Zira, who is the most loyal Scar's follower, and, according to a cut scene for The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, his queen. They were quite based in Scar, since they have Scar's shape.

[edit] Outlander lions

The Outlander lions have:

  • Grey fur or dark brown fur
  • Dark brown, almost black, or even black, mane
  • Pointed, normally black, nose
  • Usually have hair-tufts on their elbows, from the same color that their mane

About the physical building, there is some discussion, because Kovu, an Outlander male, despite having colors similar to Scar's colors, looks like Simba in physical building, while Nuka, another Outlander male, has light physical build, like Scar. But that may be because Kovu isn't Scar's son, while Nuka is strongly hinted to be Scar's son. And there are no other Outlander males to compare.

The Outlander lionesses have:

  • Grey fur or brown fur
  • Pointed, normally black, nose
  • Some have some long hairs over the head (particularly Vitani).
  • Long snout
  • Possible dorsal stripe
  • Normally they have darker colour around the eyes.

Outlanders always have the claws of their front paws fully extended, like Scar. Real lions have their claws hidden, to keep them sharp, but the Outlanders' claws, particularly Zira's, seem extremely sharp. Kovu has his claws out when he is bad, but when he changes to the good side he puts his claws hidden.

[edit] The Lion King

The Outlanders don't appear at all in the first movie, and no mention is made of them. This causes a plothole because all the lionesses fight on Simba's side. Many fans believe that happens because they were absent from Pride Rock during the battle, most likely hunting as Scar told them. This fact is most believed because Zira says that Simba, and not the hyenas, killed Scar.

[edit] The Lion King II: Simba's Pride

The reason why the Outlanders followed Scar is unknown, but in the second movie they are in the Outlands, banished by Simba. They first appear in a scene where we have a general overview about the Outlands, and we see that no one of the lionesses is happy. There are even two fighting because of a stick. They appear next in Zira's "My Lullaby" song, and they seem a little bit happier. Next they appear in the scene where Zira is checking if Kovu is prepared to fight Simba. They appear later in the scene where Simba is ambushed in the burning plain by the Outlanders. They appear next in the battle. There is a scene where four Outlanders threaten to eat Timon and Pumbaa. Pumbaa turns around, and then Timon uses Pumbaa's tail as a gun, and threatens to shoot something (probably gas). All the Outlanders run away, terrified. That might suggest that Timon and Pumbaa already met the Outlanders, and they and a "gas" surprise. They all change to Simba's side when Zira threatens to kill Vitani if she doesn't fight. After the battle, they are seen in the end of the movie, when all, Outlanders and Pridelanders, roar triumphantly over the Pride Lands.
