"Out of the Blue" (Atlantic 89129, Atlantic UK A9091, Atlantic Philippines ATR-0350, Atlantic Japan 10SW-15) is the third single by American singer-songwriter-actress Deborah Gibson. Written by Gibson herself, co-produced and co-arranged with Fred Zarr, with Douglas Breitbart as executive producer (see also Deborah Gibson), this single is identical to Track 1 of Gibson's debut album (Atlantic LP 81780). Released as a single January 1988, "Out of the Blue" gave Gibson her highest chart placing so far at the time by reaching number three in the U.S. In the UK it did slightly less well than the two previous singles, stalling at number nineteen.
As a maxi single (Atlantic DM 86621), "Out of the Blue," like "Shake Your Love" (Atlantic DM 86651) before it, took number one on the Billboard Hot Maxi Singles.
