Out of This World is the first book in The Worlds of Shadow trilogy by Lawrence Watt-Evans.
[edit] Basic plot
A family from the present day is contacted by people from a magical world, who have access to a spell that allows travel between universes. They need help defeating the evil wizard who runs their world. The family ends up trapped in the magical world and has to travel to a science fiction world in order to make their way home. The book ends while they are still in the science fiction world.
