Out of Bounds is a 1986 feature film directed by Richard Tuggle and starring Anthony Michael Hall.
[edit] Synopsis
Hall portrays Daryl Cage, an Iowa farmboy whose parents send him to live in Los Angeles with his brother. At the airport, Daryl's suitcase full of checkered flannel shirts is switched with one containing a drug kingpin's heroin. The drug kingpin has Cage's brother murdered, but the police suspect Daryl himself of the crime. Cage seeks vengeance against the kingpin while attempting to clear his own name.
[edit] Other details and trivia
Hall had recently achieved fame as the star of a number of "teen" movies, such as Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Weird Science (1985). Hall was eager to avoid being typecast into those roles, and opted to star in Out of Bounds as a way to contrast his previous work.
The film soundtrack featured songs by Stewart Copeland & Adam Ant, Robert Berry, Night Ranger, Belinda Carlisle, The Smiths, The Cult, Sammy Hagar, and Siouxsie & The Banshees.
At least two other short films have been produced with the same title and one made for TV movie (1977) has also shared the name, (as did a 2001 A&E Biography of Mary Kay Letourneau) but none has enjoyed the box-office success of the 1986 film, which earned just over US$5,000,000.
