Out Skerries

The Out Skerries are an island group in Shetland, Scotland.[1] They are sometimes called the Outer Skerries or just Skerries (although this may lead to confusion with the Ve Skerries). The Out Skerries lie about four miles north east of Whalsay and Bound Skerry forms the easternmost part of Scotland, lying 320 km from Norway.
The main islands, all small, are Housay, Bruray and Grunay. The population is 76. The first two of these are populated and are linked by a bridge. The islands have a primary and secondary school, two shops, a fish processing factory, an airstrip, and a church. The secondary school is the smallest in the UK; in 2004 it had only two pupils. The main industry on the islands is fishing.
There is little peat on the Out Skerries, so the residents have been granted rights to cut in on Whalsay.[2]
The Skerries Bridge was built in 1957 to provide a fixed link from Bruray to the neighbouring and larger island of Housay.
