Ouseburn Valley

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ouseburn Valley is a cultural oasis in the East end of Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Now spanned by three impressive bridges, the Lower Ouseburn was the focal point for the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution in Newcastle with Coal brought from the town Moor along the Victoria Tunnel where the tidal nature of the Ouse allowed Wherries, the local barges, to be loaded at low tide and pulled out to the Collier Brigs and Snows waiting in the Tyne.

This Industrial heritage has left many large buildings, in the 1970's, the local creative Art's community began to utilise many buildings as creative workspaces, these Artists, musicians and performers led the regeneration of the area which is now marketed as a trendy place to live.

The Valley has its own Community Wiki, created by Alex Finnegan, founder of PuppetShip CIC.
