Character bios

It is of my opinion that the short character bios preceeding the main characters' character descriptions are more than trivial information than what we really need to have in the article. Also, it's not usually standard to give this type of information in characters sections on Wikipedia (I've seen at least), so I am going to go ahead and delete them. -- (十八|talk) 19:15, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

I have just added the Zuka Club to the 'supporting characters' section; I thought they were at least as deserving of being mentioned as Nekozawa and Renge. I'm not so good with adding pictures - especially when I have none - or Japanese kanji. Is there anyone who can add these? Art is life and life is an art. 14:16, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I've added a brief piece on Kotoko Fujioka to the 'supporting characters' section. Do you guys think it's too much ...? And if not, could someone add the kanji and a picture?

They should be visible in the fansub of episode 19; there's a scene of Ranka and Kotoko (Haruhi inside) when Ranka is having a flashback. I can't read kanji myself, but the translation for the caption text said that's what it says.

Japanese Title

While glancing through the edit history, I found it interesting that a revert had been done with a comment that the previous user should learn to read katakana before making edits on the Japanese part of the pages. Not being the user in question who made the first change that got reverted, I can only speculate on how much they actually knew, but the change made (and then reverted) wasn't involved with katakana at all, as it was regarding the 部 in 桜蘭高校ホスト部, which is kanji.

Now, I'm not all that fluent in the language, but I've seen no record of 部 being *directly* romanized into kurabu. I have heard the characters use both hosuto-bu (ホスト部) and hosuto kurabu (ホストクラブ) at different times fairly interchangably, but the title of the anime itself uses the kanji. Is there a translation for the kanji that directly romanizes into kurabu that I'm not aware of? --81.86.155.150 22:25, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

I've since figured out that the reason for this difference is due to the furigana used in both the anime and manga's titles, hence the confusion - the loanword kurabu isn't normally a given reading for the kanji. However, in the two episodes of the anime where ホスト部 is directly referenced in the episode title, Haruhi uses bu instead of kurabu when reading it aloud, so there is still a difference there. What would be the suggested method to approach this, given the vocal reading of it in the anime versus the usage of kurabu in the romanization of 部 in all Ouran-related pages, including the Episode title list? --81.86.155.150 01:30, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
I'll be glad to clear this up for you. If you look at the image of the title of the anime given here, we see that above the kanji and to the left are a series of katakana characters. The last 3 of which spell out ku-ra-bu, hence why I stated the anon user learn to read katakana before editing the title again. -- (十八|talk) 05:18, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, the furigana, as I noted later. The anon user seemed either familiar with kanji itself though or used one of the translations that was based on only the kanji - without the furigana as a guide, 'bu' would be the most accurate translation. Knowing how to read katakana was not the problem there (unless the anon user did not translate it himself) - it would've been more helpful to actually point out the furigana.
This still leaves the episode titles though. While the official name of the series uses kurabu, the episode titles are being read out using the bu reading. Would it not be an idea to follow suit there and translate the episode titles as Haruhi says they are? It seems to me like the difference between the author's name of the series (Ōran Kōkō Hosuto Kurabu) and the characters' use when referring to the club (Hosuto Bu), and perhaps, since the romaji for the episode titles is given by Wikipedia, it would be better to use that. --81.86.155.150 10:45, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi, sorry about changing things without commenting here first (I was the anon user) I remembered after reading through this section that they say the full club's name at the end of each next episode's preview. Tamaki says "Ouran Koukou Hosuto Kurabu mo omachishite orimasu" so I have to change my mind and concede that even though it's written with the kanji for just 'bu', the official name may be Ouran Koukou Hosuto Kurabu.

Renge French Otaku

Hi. It says in the Episode listing that Renge is a "French Otaku". Does this mean that she is from France, or that she likes "French" things a lot? (Such as dressing as a GothLoli) --129.241.210.98 05:08, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Is there real magic happening in the "dark magic club"?

I wondered if there is actually is magic happening in that manga, or do the members of that club only play around?

Actually, I believe in the manga the club is shown to have more than just one member, though I'll have to read more of the manga to confirm. As for the magic, it's probably all fake anyway. I mean, take Beelzenef for example - it's just a useless cat doll. -- (十八|talk) 15:37, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Article size

Episode 19's Insert Song

Why is the trivia in the Characters article

More clubs in Ouran

There's a Student Council in Ouran, appeared in the Central Salon race. The official known are Matsudaira Toshiyuki as the president and Kanan Mitsuyama as the secretary. And a football club, the president is Takeshi Kuze and two other members. I was thinking of adding these clubs and character to the character sections, but I think I need to discuss about it first there. Besides I do not have enough information about them. Anime Bias?

Umsies...#><# I'm so sorry..b-but I noticed lotsa times when reading this article that almost all information on characters, plot, clubs, everythingies come from the anime...like, it says how the Zuka Club is the Host Club's archenemy, but in the manga this is actually cleared up at the end and they're friends ><;; I'm so sorry if I'm bothering everyone, but I think that peoples should have a balanced view of the story...^.^;; if people don't like the neutral thingy on the main page please delete it if you want #><# I only put it there to draw attention, I just want to know if other peoples think that this is a problem, 'cause I think it is #><# I'm so sorry...!

First of all, sign your comments by writting ~~~~. Second, if you know of a bias, then include the information from the manga to correct it. Otherwise the vast majority of fans of this series haven't read the manga series so do not know of the differences. -- (十八|talk) 05:21, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
a-ah! #><# s-sorry..I forgot...and I mean w-well...here's some differences
  • One of the biggest differences in the Manga and Anime is Hunny's actual capabilities in fighting, as he is actually not as ridiculously powerful as he is in the anime in the manga. This is only in the anime that Hunny can destroy an entire country, I think it should be noted that it's not this way in the manga and that he is just a 'junior master of martial arts'.
  • I'm not really sure if anyone has noticed this but Haruhi's personality seems a little more extreme in the anime than in the manga, as in, she seems a little more serious in the anime. I'm not sure if it's just my perspective of it, but that's what I always thought.
  • The Zuka Club are the Host Club's 'arch rival' for a while, but at the end of the chapter/episode when they capture Haruhi, it is revealed that they become friends with the Host Club and everyone is invited to their real show, in which Ranka-san (Haruhi's father) is touched so much emotionally that he pleads to join the Zuka Club, himself.
  • The article on Tamaki's father, Yuzuru Suoh-sama, says that he's a bit cold to Tamaki and does not like him as a student, but this is almost immediately revealed in the manga that it's merely "juvenile mischief" and he loves to pick on Tamaki just to annoy him, when he truly loves him as a son and student.
  • In the anime it states that Ranka-san "'was originally' bisexual", but in the manga Ranka-san is said to be completely bisexual and still bisexual, but prefers men because he does not want to fall in love with another woman.

Music/other

There was a recent edit that replaced an unknown piano piece played by Tamaki in Episode 24, 25, and 26 with Chopin's "Nocturne in E-flat Major, Op 9, No 2". There is no mistaking that the two pieces sound similar, however unless there is additional information revealing an intentional rearrangement of Chopin's piece, or artistic interpretation, this assumption seems erroneous. Unless you can give us an example of how the pieces are different, and/or tell us what the piece is, Nocturne in E-flat Major is all we have to go by. We can say that it just sounds like it, if you're really that opposed to us claiming it to be the piece in question, but again, we have nothing either way at this point. In Chopin's composition, the intro consists of chord progressions played by the left hand; in contrast, the piece played by Tamaki in episode 24 uses arpeggios. There are several other differences, such as the use of trills, and asending/descending chromatic scales. The second "movement" or section of both pieces bear no resemblance to each other. But I will still agree that there are similarities in melody and the fact that they're both written in triple meter. If you get a chance, google Chopin and listen to a midi file. Sorry, I haven't registered still. After corresponding with the music composer for the series, I have been told that the music was written in a parody style of favorite classics, such as Chopin; thus, the similarities appear. Hope that helps.

As a side note, the piece played by Tamaki in Episode 24,25,26 was composed after the soundtrack had been compiled and released on CD and not included. It is currently untitled, and there is no further information whether it will be available as media in the future. Source: Yoshihisa Hirano, personal communication, December 13, 2006. Too much redundancy

There's too much redundancy in this article. The manga, anime and drama cds are introduced twice in the same way. The plot and setting was included twice (originally the setting was a lot further down but I have moved it up) and parts of the characters is repeated. I've done my best to clean it up with wrecking the section formatting but a lot of stuff may need merging. --Squilibob 14:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
