[edit] History
The school was founded in 1961 as a secondary modern school with 259 pupils. The first head teacher was Mr Eric Critchley. In 1979 further building took place for the school to become an 11-16 comprehensive school for 700 pupils. In 1985 the school's sixth form college opened, converting the school into an 11-18 comprehensive school. The sixth form then had only 11 students. In 1986 the school was reorganised as part of an Oldham Roman Catholic Schools' reorganisation prompting further building work and raising the school's capacity to 800 pupils. In 2005 the school became a specialist school in Mathematics and Computing.

[edit] School day
The school day at Our Lady's begins at 9am and finishes at 3.15pm (3pm on Friday's), with the lesson timetable arranged in fortnightly cycles, named "Week A" and "Week B". Lessons are termed "periods" and are one hour long (with the exception of period 2, which is 65 minutes long), with five periods per day. Break takes place for 15 minutes at 11:35am and there are two dinner intervals: one from 12:35 to 13:15 for year 7, 8 and sixth form students and one from 13:35 to 14:15 for year 9, 10 and 11 students.
[edit] Inspection Report
The school was last inspected by OFSTED in December 2006.[1]
[edit] Facilities
The facilities at Our Lady's are comparable to schools with similar grade performance. It was noted in the Ofsted report that money has been invested in new computers, moving away from iMac G3 and iBook G4 machines (running Mac OS 9) towards Windows XP based systems. Intel-based iMac's were recently purchased to assist with creative works in Information Technology.
As the school has grown, the two sites have been developed with new buildings. Older buildings include the Vaughan Street and Broadway buildings, whereas the Sixth Form/English blocks are a newer addition (extended recently). Developments have been made to cater for wheelchairs, include lift access in the Vaughan Street and Sixth Form/English buildings. Technology developments have been seen across the school, with the introduction of interactive whiteboard and projector systems. All teachers are provided with laptop computers, used for registration and communication, along with assisting in visual learning techniques.
Amongst the school community, it has often been rumoured and suggested that the Vaughan Street area be demolished and replaced with a playing field.[citation needed] New classrooms would then be built on the excess land at the Broadway regions of the campus.
