The airport is the second busiest in Finland after Helsinki-Vantaa airport, as measured by the number of passengers (around 847,946 in 2006) and the amount of freight transported. There are more than a dozen daily flights to Helsinki. Oulu Airport is also extensively used by Finnish Air Forces for training purposes.
