Other villains in Sonic the Hedgehog (games)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the fictional universe of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games, there are a significant number of villains present. Aside from some of the more prominent ones, there are several who have had only minor roles in the storyline

For villains appearing exclusively in the Archie-published Sonic the Hedgehog comics, see Minor villains in Sonic the Hedgehog (comic series). For minor robot villains featured in the series, see Eggman's robots.

[edit] Master Core: ABIS

One of the robots from MeteorTech and the final boss of Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. During the story, it once contained an Ark of the Cosmos until it cornered Storm the Albatross and Amy Rose. Later on, near to the end of Jet's story, it ambushes the Babylon Rogues, snatches all five of the Arks and takes them to the Babylon Garden, creating an immeasurable black hole. When facing it in the course known as Mobius Strip, the boss battle works in a similar way to the Babylon Guardian, but is considered a lot harder. Players are no longer able to use Gravity Dive at will. When it reaches the core of Astral Babylon, it automatically causes all players to use Gravity Dive. The player needs to use it to ram into the core and inflict damage to it. If a computer player reaches the core before you, it will not count.

[edit] Babylon Guardian

The Babylon Guardian (called Angelus the Gatekeeper in Japan) is a fictional character from Sonic Riders. He is a genie in a bottle, and resembles a large purple hawk who guards the treasure of Babylon. He is also referred to as "the guardian God of Babylon" when choosing his stage, called simply "Babylon Guardian". The treasure he was protecting was revealed to be a "magic carpet" which was actually a prototype Extreme Gear created by the ancient Babylonians. He regards those who seek treasure as greedy, and he is hidden behind a large door in Babylon Garden (the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in Japan). He is the final and only "boss" of Sonic Riders. He is defeated by Sonic at the end of the Babylon Story. He is also one of the very few final bosses not to be defeated by Super Sonic. He was voiced by Madeleine Blaustein in English.

[edit] Battle Kukku Army

The Battle Kukku Army are an army of birds that invade Cocoa Island (in the English language versions, the Army is renamed the "Battle Bird Armada" and Cocoa Island is "Tails Island") in Tails Adventure. They invade the island to snag the Chaos Emeralds which are hidden on the island. Tails battles the army and after he defeats their leader, the birds surrender. The Battle Kukku Army consists of uniformed birds, somewhat intelligent robot drones and advanced machinery. The Battle Kukku Army lives on a huge flying fortress that posed as an island throughout most of Tails Adventure.

Notable members of the Battle Kukku Army include:

  • Grand Battle Kukku 15th, the dictator-like leader of the army. He is larger than most Kukkus, and is the final boss of the game battled in his flying fortress. He fights by throwing bombs all around him and throwing Tails himself if the fox gets too close.
  • Battle Kukku 16th, aka Speedy, the son of Grand Battle Kukku 15th. Speedy is a quick green Kukku who, despite his natural and fast aerial skills, sometimes wears armor equipped with an energy gun and a jet engine that lets him take even faster flight. He appears as a boss twice throughout the game, first on Pori Pori Mountain and then in the flying fortress just before the player faces his father.
  • Dr. Fukurokov, the army's main scientist. He is the first boss of the flying fortress, but does not actually fight, as he instead lets his defensive machinery take care of Tails. His tendency to overlook little details is his greatest weakness.

While they only appeared in Tails Adventure, seemingly cancelled storyline for the Archie comics would have introduced the Battle Kukku Army as villains in an issue following #134, their name having been changed to the Battlebird Armada[1].

[edit] Captain Bemoth

He appeared in Sonic and the Secret Rings as the captain of a fleet of pirate ships that was being ravaged by storms (probably the storms summoned by the Water Blue Ring). He looked like an average Pirate Djinn until he fused with several Slime Djinns and transformed into a large leech like creature with arms and a large bearded face. His name may be a reference to Behemoth. He is the one responsible for Sinbad the Sailor's capture and stole his World Ring to control the storms but instead ended up destroying a large portion of his own ships. Despite having no legs he can move very fast and create large waves of water, as well as generating electric shockwaves. He was defeated when Sonic pulled out his horns, which were his source of power. However, it is alluded that Bemoth was not killed, as Sonic commented "Your horns will grow back, eventually."

[edit] Biolizard

Biolizard, the Prototype of Ultimate Life, is a creature which appears in Sonic Adventure 2 as the second to last boss, and final boss, and in episode 38 of Sonic X under the same role. It is also seen briefly in a flashback in Shadow the Hedgehog. The Biolizard appears as a giant and alien looking lizard with a life support system on its back with tubes running down its neck to its head. According to Sonic X, the Biolizard is 85 meters long, 30 meters wide, 19.5 meters tall, and weighs 87.5 tons.[2] The massive creature can either attack by trying to bite its enemies with crushing jaws, or attempting to hit them with its tail. Biolizard can also spit large black orbs from its mouth, create smaller, but extremely numerous, pink egg-like orbs that it can shoot at a target and manipulate gravity. Additionally, as a product of Project Shadow, the creature can use Chaos Control.

The Biolizard was an earlier version of "Project Shadow", a government project run by Professor Gerald Robotnik that was intended to create an "Ultimate Lifeform" as a first step towards humanity discovering the secret of immortality. Due to the experiments, it later needed a life support system. While the Biolizard was successful in the way that it was could regenerate and restore itself, and could self-reproduce, it was also unruly and dangerous. It was locked away when Gerald, with the aid of the alien Black Doom, produced a more advanced being: Shadow the Hedgehog. The military, on Earth, began to worry and fear about what Robotnik was building on the ARK. When GUN came to Space Colony ARK in order to put a stop to Professor Gerald's plans, they found the Biolizard and captured it. It didn't go without a fight, however, and it killed almost all of the GUN soldiers.

The Biolizard remained encapsulated aboard the ARK until Doctor Eggman placed the seven Chaos Emeralds into the Eclipse Cannon. This initiated a hidden program by Gerald, that would use the Emeralds to power the ARK into a doomsday causing collision with the planet below. The program released the Biolizard to defend the Armageddon plan from tampering by the combined forces of Eggman, Sonic the Hedgehog and friends. But Amy Rose had convinced Shadow to help save the Earth, and he engaged and defeated the giant reptile in battle by damaging its Life Support System. Knuckles rushed in afterwards and used the Master Emerald to negate the power of the Chaos Emeralds, supposedly putting a halt to the collision course. However, the Biolizard then used Chaos Control to teleport outside and fuse with the space station itself, becoming the Finalhazard. Its body mounted on the eclipse cannon, it continued the rush towards Earth by pulling it there itself. As Finalhazard it attacks with the pink orbs and firing out energy beams from its damaged Life Support System. It was, however, weakened by the loss of its Life Support System, revealing slight weak points on his body, and was destroyed by the combined power of Sonic and Shadow in super form. Together, Sonic and Shadow then used Chaos Control to place the ARK back into orbit, ending the collision course and saving the planet. If an Action Replay code is used, it is easy to ignore the Finalhazard, and the screen will start to get red. This means its entering the atmoshpere. Sonic's friends and Eggman tell the player when the colony will enter the atmoshpere.

[edit] Black Arms

The Black Arms are an evil, demon-like alien race led by Black Doom. They appear in the game Shadow the Hedgehog, where they invaded Earth in search of the seven Chaos Emeralds, and are battled by the game's main character Shadow the Hedgehog, along with other characters. They dwell on a massive comet, simply known as the Black Comet, which passes by Earth every fifty years. The Black Comet itself seems to act as if it were alive or at least techno-organic in nature, as its interior seems to be partially composed of organic matter, complete with deadly bodily fluid looking liquids, protruding tentacles, throat like caverns, and strange pulsating growths. The Black Arms come in several shapes but nearly all are characterized by jet black and crimson skin. The Black Arms start out life as a small, weak larva stage known as Death Leeches, which are in fact Black Doom's offspring. There are the standard troopers known as "Black Warriors", that act as the main footsoldiers. Many other variations also exist. The characters (except Black Doom and Doom's Eye) refer to them as "black creatures" and G.U.N. refers to them as "the black aliens" or "black creatures".

In Shadow the Hedgehog they are out to collect the Chaos Emeralds so that they can use Chaos Control to teleport their Black Comet to the Earth's surface, where it digs into the planet and releases a toxic gas that paralyzes all life without Black Arms DNA. Inside, Black Doom has escaped to what is most likely the center. After Shadow arrives there, he escapes yet again, only this time turning into a giant beast called Devil Doom. After Devil Doom is defeated, Shadow uses Chaos Control to send the Black Comet into space again, where he blasts it with the Eclipse Cannon on the Space Colony ARK, destroying it along with the Black Arms residing inside it. Note, Devil Doom has almost nothing in common with his normal form.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, the Black Arms also appear locked in war with another alien race known as the Xorda. For the time being, this war keeps both of them away from Sonic's home planet of Mobius.

[edit] Black Doom

Black Doom is the main antagonist from the game Shadow the Hedgehog. Black Doom is the archenemy of Shadow the Hedgehog, similar to what Doctor Eggman is to Sonic the Hedgehog. Black Doom is the leader and commander of the aliens Black Arms. Depending on which path the player choose (Hero or Dark), Black Doom will either be an ally or a foe of Shadow the Hedgehog. He is immortal, has various telekinetic and energy based powers, the ability to use Chaos Control, and a third eye, simply known as "Doom's Eye", that is a separate being from himself, and can speak and project a hologram of Black Doom. He has a Dark Lord persona, his worn robe and jewelry give him the appearance of a priest and his motivation for conquering the world seems almost religious in nature. Black Doom is voiced by Sean Schemmel in the English-speaking version of Shadow the Hedgehog and Ryūzaburō Ōtomo in the Japanese version.

It is revealed that Black Doom intended to invade the Earth for over two thousand years: the bird-shaped ruins in Glyphic Canyon and Sky Troops are revealed to be flying temples transported to Earth by Black Doom over two thousand years ago to be used as weapons. Fifty years prior to the game, Gerald Robotnik contacted the Black Comet and formed an alliance with Black Doom. The professor used the DNA in Black Doom's blood to create the Ultimate Life Form, Shadow the Hedgehog (technically making Black Doom Shadow's father), in order to expand Gerald's research and help Black Doom retrieve the Chaos Emeralds so he could teleport the Black Comet to Earth and conquer the planet. When Gerald learned of Black Doom's intentions he had the Eclipse Cannon built to destroy the Black Comet. At the beginning of the game Black Doom appears before Shadow as a hologram and commands him to find the Chaos Emeralds. Throughout the game Black Doom uses Shadow to fulfill his goals, and constantly tries to convince him to join the Black Arms and renounce his alliance with humans. He tries to win Shadow over by trying to manipulate Shadow into believing that no good can come from the continued existence of humanity. In the true ending, Shadow retrieves the Chaos Emeralds and Black Doom takes them, and reveals that he needed them to amplify his Chaos Control to transport the Black Comet to Earth. In the end, he transforms into a much more monstrous and powerful form: Devil Doom. Also using the Emeralds, Shadow transforms into Super Shadow, and he is able to defeat Devil Doom, sending him tumbling down toward the city below. It is not known if Black Doom is still alive or not, however, an important thing to consider is that Black Doom is immortal, and was likely the source of Shadow's immortality. Since Shadow cannot die (at least not from natural causes), it is possible that Black Doom also cannot die either.

[edit] King Boom Boo

King Boom Boo as he appears in Sonic X.
King Boom Boo as he appears in Sonic X.

King Boom Boo is the king of all ghosts. He has ghost powers, but he and his ghost minions can lose power because of an artifact with a sun and moon side. When the "sun" side is up, it creates light and they lose power. When the "moon" side is up they become stronger and gain powers. These powers include throwing plasma balls and shooting a plasma beam from his mouth. He will also attempt to bite you at close range. He was defeated by Knuckles at the Death Chamber in Sonic Adventure 2 as a boss. He relates very much like Nintendo's King Boo. When you fight him, you can see on the wall a picture of a Nintendo regular Boo, and a regular Boom Boo.

He appears on an episode of Sonic X, haunting an old mansion with his minions but doesn't appear in the Pyramid like he did in the game.

[edit] Egg Golem

The Egg Golem as he appears in Sonic X.
The Egg Golem as he appears in Sonic X.

The Egg Golem is a boss character appearing in Sonic Adventure 2. After Knuckles the Echidna defeats King Boom Boo, Eggman appears and summons a giant animated statue called the Egg Golem to battle Sonic. To defeat the Egg Golem, Sonic must run to his back, jump across the platforms that stick out, and attack the Golem's control mechanism atop its head.

In the Dark Story, Sonic immediately jumps up and kicks the control mechanism, causing the Egg Golem to go haywire and attack Eggman. In order to defeat it, Eggman has to use his Volkan Cannon to destroy its internal power genorators. Once all three of them are destroyed, the Egg Golem becomes disabled and sinks down into the quicksand.

According to an eyecatcher card from Sonic X, The Egg Golem is 57 Metres tall and weighs 250 tons[3]. The Egg Golem fights by smashing its and head against the circular platform that Sonic or Eggman are standing on. It can also create an electrical field around itself to repel attacks, or spin its arms around itself to sweep enemies off the platform.

The Egg Golem also appeared in the Sonic X adaption of Sonic Adventure 2. It was remotely controlled by Bokkun who used it to fight Sonic and Knuckles. The two heroes had a hard time with the golem, but eventually Cream the Rabbit stole the remote control from Bokkun just after he took Agent Topaz hostage, and made the Egg Golem chase Bokkun into the desert. It later appeared standing on top of Doctor Eggman's pyramid During Super Sonic and Super Shadow's fight against the Finalhazard, with Bokkun standing on its head.

A similar character was also used in the game Sonic & Knuckles as the first act boss in the Sandopolis Zone. Like the Egg Golem it was an animated statue, vulnerable only on its head, and although it was not named, it may have been a partial inspiration for the later character.

[edit] Erazor Djinn

Erazor Djinn is a genie who serves as the primary antagonist in Sonic and the Secret Rings. His name is a pun on the words "Eraser" and "Razor" because he is "erasing" the pages of the book and he uses a "razor"-like weapon. He is voiced by Masashi Ebara in Japanese and Peter Cormican in English. Erazor is the Genie of the Lamp from the tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. In his story, he was punished for misdeeds, and was to remain in his lamp until he had granted the wishes of one thousand people. When he had fulfilled his sentence and was finally freed, he had a renewed hatred of the creator of the stories, and began to take over the Arabian Nights, twisting the words that supported the stories into spirits that followed his command. He attempts to absorb the pages of the book, so he can control the entire world of Arabian Nights, as well as make his way into Sonic's world. He curses Sonic by embedding a flaming arrow in his chest. The curse made it that when the flame completely burns out, Sonic would die. Erazor makes a deal with Sonic: bring the Seven World Rings to him and he would remove the arrow, but because of the curse, he only had a limited time to find the Rings. Unbeknowst to Sonic, Erazor did not intend to help, instead he planned to use Sonic as a sacrifice to fulfill the prophecy of opening the gateway between worlds and gaining ultimate power.

After the rings are collected, Erazor needs to sacrifice Sonic to utilize their full power. As he made his strike, Shahra gets in the way to save Sonic. She slowly dies, begging for Sonic's forgiveness. With the power of the World Rings, Erazor transforms into Alf Layla-wa Layla (which translates to 1,000 and 1 Nights in Arabic), though he is incomplete because Sonic is still alive. Four of the World Rings get fused into Sonic, transforming him into Darkspine Sonic. Alf-layla-wa-layla then battles Darkspine Sonic trying to sacrifice him as the distant voice of Shahra guides Sonic. After the battle, Erazor reverts back to his normal form, as well as Sonic. Erazor boasts about being immortal, and that he'll always come back after defeat. However, Sonic uses the magic lamp given to him by Shahra, which was inactive at the time, and uses three wishes: to bring Shahra back to life, to restore the stories of the Arabian Nights, and to seal Erazor Djinn away in the lamp for the rest of time. Helpless against the mystic powers of the lamp, the defeated genie was forced to grant them all, and doomed himself to his eternal prison. During the game credits, Sonic is seen tossing Erazor's lamp into the lava of Ifrit Golem's chamber.

[edit] Fang the Sniper

For information on the version of Fang as seen in the American Sonic the Hedgehog comics, see Minor villains in Sonic the Hedgehog (comic series)#Nack the Weasel.
For his appearance in Sonic the Comic, see List of characters in Sonic the Comic#Nack the Weasel.
Fang the Sniper in Sonic the Fighters.
Fang the Sniper in Sonic the Fighters.

Fang the Sniper (ファング・ザ・スナイパー Fangu za Sunaipā?), also known as Nack the Weasel, is a purple anthropomorphic wolf/weasel hybrid[4] that first appeared in the Game Gear video game Sonic Triple Trouble as an expert treasure hunter in search of the Chaos Emeralds. . Manuals mention that he is obsessed with valuables, jewels and money, and has interests in beautiful women. He wears a large, brown stetson, brown and white boots, and brown gloves with metal plates on them. He is very competent and sneaky, but his overconfidence occasionally leads to failure. He is often seen with his air-bike, the Marvelous Queen.

The character was originally conceived as Fang the Sniper, the name by which he was known in the Japanese Sonic games but this was briefly changed in the European and American releases to "Nack the Weasel". This name was used in his debut game, Sonic Triple Trouble, and the comic books he also appears in, but all games released after Sonic Triple Trouble have called him "Fang", regardless of language. It is interesting to note that promotional materials called him "Jet the Sniper"[citation needed], but it is unknown if this is a name during development or an early localization attempt.

Fang the Sniper is the only Sonic character to have only four fingers even in Japanese promotional art. This may be a reference to the ritual of Yubitsume to make Fang seem like a Yakuza-like character.

Fang the Sniper has appeared in Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Drift 2, Tails Adventures, and Sonic the Fighters. In addition, he was set to appear in Sonic X-treme as a boss character, but did not due to its cancellation. He was also mentioned in a DVD-ROM flash comic that came with Sonic and the Secret Rings

[edit] Ifrit

In Sonic and the Secret Rings, a boss called the Ifrit Golem appears. Shara refers to him as "a djinn that controls fire." He bears some resemblance to Iblis, but appears to be a mechanical entity. The Ifrit was summoned by the Erazor Djinn to burn the pages of the Arabian Nights. Like Iblis, the Ifrit is invincible until Sonic uses the power of the Water Blue World Ring to create a storm, reducing the Ifrit's heat. When Ifrit is summoned, Iblis is mentioned in Erazor's incantation, the Ifrit was referred to by Erazor as a being sent to the abyss by Iblis. This is not the same Iblis from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), however, as the events in the game were erased from history and also because the two games have no plot connection. Rather, Iblis in this context is a word for the Devil.

In Sonic Rivals 2, Eggman Nega's actions were preparations for releasing an Ifrit creature that his ancestor Gerald Robotnik ,(the Chaos Emeralds to open a dimensional portal to the one Ifrit resides in, and Chao to power it up), however, it is highly unlikely this is the one from the Arabian Nights. The dimension in which this plot succeeds is very similar to the future in which Iblis reigned. It's true nature is in doubt, for now.

[edit] Solaris

Solaris was a god of time and the super-dimensional sun god of Soleanna and the Main Antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog. Solaris initially existed as a flame which was worshiped by the citizens of Soleanna. The Duke of Soleanna led experiments into Solaris, in the hopes of using its time control powers to allow humanity to correct its past sins. However, during one such experiment Solaris became unstable and split into two forms - Iblis, the raw power, and Mephiles, the conscious mind. Mephiles was sealed into an artifact known as the "Scepter of Darkness" whilst the Duke was forced to seal Iblis inside of his young daughter, Princess Elise The Third. Before dying from wounds caused by the accident, he told his daughter to grow up to be a strong queen who would never cry as doing so would destroy the seal on Iblis.

After killing Sonic, Mephiles was quick to rejoin with his counterpart, once again forming their complete form of Solaris. Plunging the world into darkness he prepared to devour time itself. Before he could achieve this, he was defeated by a combined assault from Super Sonic, Super Shadow and Super Silver. His defeat spirited Elise and Sonic back to before the fateful experiment. After some contemplation, Elise chose to blow out the tiny flame that was Solaris and thus change history by erasing him from existence. During the battle with the three super form hedgehogs, Solaris attacked shooting out meteors and firing a large laser that can hit it's enemies from any distance. He increases the number of meteors and laser he fires in his second form (he can fire out 6-14 lasers). Solaris is one of the few bosses in the series whose attacks take rings away from Super Form characters. Another power Solaris has is during the "End of the World" level (where the characters are trying to revive Sonic), is to create massive orb-like "eyes" that suck anything around them, including enemies the characters encounter. Touching the eye result in instant death, regardless of rings or even an invincibility power-up. Because the events of the game never happened, Solaris never existed.

[edit] Iblis

Iblis was an immortal monster of mass destruction and was Silver the Hedgehog's main enemy in Sonic the Hedgehog. It was a creature that was born from "The Flames of Disaster", and takes the name "Disaster" from this. Iblis appears to be a mindless creature, who only seems to be interested in causing destruction. Its primary form has four arms and was a lava-like version of Perfect Chaos in appearance. Fitting it's appearance, Iblis's attacks are fire and lava based. It can shoot out lava rocks, breathe fire, and the form it has that have arms are strong enough to lift up large buildings. Originally sealed inside Princess Elise by her father over 10 years before the game, Iblis was inadvertently released by the "Iblis Trigger" a few years later. Iblis continued to destroy the world up until, and including, Silver's time period in the future. In Silver's story, Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat continuously battle Iblis, but it ended up proving too powerful for either of them to defeat, since it had the ability to continually resurrect itself. Thus, Mephiles advises Silver and Blaze to depart to the time period right before Iblis' final transformation to stop Sonic the Hedgehog, referred to as the "Iblis Trigger" from destroying the world. Silver found out how to seal Iblis. He then confronted the monster, but in order to stop Iblis permanently, Blaze was forced to seal it within her, seemingly destroying both of them. However, as the intention was to trap Iblis in another dimension, it was possible that Iblis and Blaze wound up in the reality Blaze came from in Sonic Rush. In addition to the form described earlier, Iblis' other forms are one like a giant snake with a ripped up face, the first one with two arms but has no legs, and his original form, a ball of flame. Blaze says that Iblis has a "final form", but that form is never seen. Because none of the events of the game happened, Iblis never existed.

[edit] Mephiles the Dark

Mephiles the Dark (メフィレス・ザ・ダーク Mefiresu za Dāku?) (pronounced Meh-fill-iss in English) is the main villain of Shadow the Hedgehog's story in Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Mephiles is the other half of Solaris, and is the conscious mind and will of Solaris. He is sealed in the "Scepter of Darkness" by Shadow the Hedgehog, who had traveled through time to ten years before the events of Sonic the Hedgehog. In the present, Dr. Robotnik accidentally releases him when he causes Rouge the Bat to drop the Scepter. When he is released, Mephiles uses Shadow's shadow to reawaken and Shadow sees Mephiles is a near exact physical duplicate of himself, but with slightly different colors. He seeks to get the Chaos Emeralds and bring pain and despair to Princess Elise, with the goals of making her cry, therefore releasing Iblis, the "Flames of Disaster", and then fuse with him, becoming Solaris. And without Sonic to aid on the fight, all appears lost. He uses his powers to manipulate Sonic, Shadow, and Silver into fulfilling his needs throughout the various story lines. In the end, Mephiles kills Sonic with little effort, causing Elise to cry over his death and, as a result, release Iblis, allowing Mephiles to fuse with him and transform into Solaris. Mephiles is destroyed along with Solaris during a battle against Shadow, Silver and a revived Sonic in super form. Mephiles is voiced by Takayuki Sakazume in the Japanese-speaking version of Sonic the Hedgehog, and is voiced by Dan Green in the English-speaking version. Mephiles has many powers, including the ability to travel through time and throwing purple balls that are the same as the balls he travels inside when time traveling. He has another ability that allows him to make numerous 'shadows' which are floating forms with one blank eye, and a similar look to a cartoon ghost. With a Chaos Emerald, Mephiles was able to cover the battlefield in his second fight against Shadow with a watery pool of darkness, where his 'shadows' were able to form together to build large, black, one-eyed creatures and where Mephiles was able to hide safely. With two Chaos Emeralds, Mephiles is able to form near-unlimited copies of himself. He's also the only character to have actually killed Sonic. After he kills Sonic in the Final Story, he uses his popular evil laugh.

[edit] Void

Void is the imp-like villain from Sonic Shuffle. At the start of the game, Void shatters the mysterious Precioustone, which controls his world, Maginaryworld. Sonic and friends then set out on a quest to defeat him and repair the stone. Throughout the game, Void shows signs of depression and loneliness which touches the hearts of Sonic and his friends who, in turn, want to help him amidst the evilness within him. At the end of the game, it turns out that Void is needed for the balance in Maginaryworld, as he is the nothingness that gives people the ability to dream. He is in fact one half of Maginaryworld's ruler Illumina. Lumina is the other half. As such, Sonic and his friends do not destroy him, and leave Maginaryworld knowing that Lumina and Void cancel each other out. Cosmo from Sonic X bears a resemblance to both Void and Lumina. He was voiced by Lani Minella in the English version and Urara Takano in the Japanese version.

Prototype storylines for the Archie comics included a mention of Void as an upcoming antagonist, undoubtedly for a Sonic Shuffle adaptation that was never published.[5]

[edit] Wendy Witchcart

Wendy Witchcart is an old human witch who rides around in a specialized rail cart on an island she claims as her own, and is the main villain of Tails' Skypatrol. She claims she is able to turn any dissenters into crystal. In the game, the goal of Tails is to free the island and its inhabitants from her tyranny. Aside from an army of robots, Wendy's main lackeys are:

  • Fockewulf, a blue male anthropomorphic wolf who rides a flying bike. He appears to be named after Focke-Wulf, a German company known for manufacturing military aircraft for the Luftwaffe during the second World War. Fockewulf is the first boss of the game, fighting Tails in Rail Canyon, the second level (the first level has no boss). He fights by throwing grenades at Tails, which explode into four pieces on impact.
  • Bearenger, a black male anthropomorphic bear who rides a small flying rocket with a shark face similar to the Flying Tigers fighter planes from World War II. He is the boss of Ruin Wood, the third level. Bearenger fights by firing energy projectiles in sets of three from his rocket.
  • Carrotia, an orange female anthropomorphic rabbit who flies in a flying carrot. She wears a bow and is the boss of Metal Island, the fourth level, where she fights by firing small carrot-shaped homing missiles and throwing kisses.

[edit] Captain Whisker

A robot pirate[6] who was created by Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega, Captain Whisker resembles them heavily. He and his band of pirates (Johnny, Mini and Mum) are out to cause havoc on the seas, and intend to use an ancient artifact called The Jeweled Scepter to awaken an unnamed entity, and use its power to conquer. However, despite their claims, the pirates are not very intimidating, and are generally clownish and bumbling (possibly a reference to Scratch and Grounder from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog); he also always forgets about Sonic and others as well as what he has recently done like freezing a bunch of vikings. Whisker can also be easily tricked and can fail to notice when someone is insulting him. Despite this, Whisker can avoid being captured and is an incredible force in battle: he can breathe fire, manifest saws and use shockwave-inducing ground pounds. He takes a special dislike of any characters who have pulled on his 'whiskers', at least when either Mini or Mum remind him. He was supposedly destroyed when the Ghost Titan was blown up, or fell into the sea. He was voiced by Lonnie Hirsch, though the boss duel against both himself and Johnny was the only time Whisker's voice was heard.

[edit] Johnny

Johnny is the right-hand man of Captain Whisker in Sonic Rush Adventure. His face resembles a mix of that of a shark, a submarine, and a torpedo and was designed to resemble an anthropomorphic shark (incidentally, he bears an uncanny resemblance to Metal Sonic). He immediately forged a bitter rivalry with Sonic, believing that the hedgehog is unworthy of being "the fastest thing alive". Thus, if Sonic should encounter him on the seas, he will challenge Sonic to a race on the water. If Sonic wins, he is rewarded with a Chaos Emerald. Johnny is later fought alongside Whisker in a boss battle, but he escapes after their defeat, so it is unknown what happened to him. Johnny's name may be based on actor Johnny Depp, who portrayed pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. He was voiced by Christopher Pelegrinni.
