[edit] History
The history of Osklen started in 1986, when a group of people resolved to climb the Aconcagua, a mountain localized in the Andes, Argentina, but in those times there weren't any stores which sold sportive clothes to extremely cold places. To solve this problem, Oskar Metsavaht designed the Storm Tech System, a kind of cloth which is permeable to transpiration, but isolate the people from coldness. The climbing appeared on the TV, and the clothes became famous. Then, three years after the fact, in 1989, Oskar Metsavaht created the Osklen, in Búzios, Rio de Janeiro. The company started selling clothes to cold places, but after some years, the company started to make other clothes, and now it is a "lifestyle" clothes company. One Curiosity is that Osklen started his first store in Búzios, selling coats, but Búzios was very hot.
In the 90's, the store starts being recognized for its innovation and quality. In 1991, the company brought to Brazil the "Snowboarding" style, and designed a new coat line, with high technology. In 1992, Osklen participated its first parade, in Golden Room, on Copacaban Palace, Rio de Janeiro. In 1996, the first Osklen's "Surfing" Shorts was launched. In 1997, Oskar Metsavaht was invited by Chrysler to design a special edition of the Jeep Cherokee, in an Osklen limited edition. In 1999, the Company started to sell clothes for women.
On the XXI century, Osklen continued its work. In 2001, the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Coca-Cola Company invited Oskar to reinterpret drawings of American master of Pop Art within one of the concepts of Osklen: The Brazilian Soul. He had permission to interfere in the Artist's works and insert Rio's Daily Icons: the flowers, the sea and the Coconut Trees. In 2002, Oskar with help of biologists and environmentalists created an awareness movement, the e-brigade. The clothes were made with a recyclable cloth and were based in the defense of the environment.
Nowadays, Osklen has 41 stores in Brazil, 3 in Portugal and Italy and 1 in USA, Japan, Switzerland, has showrooms in Italy, France, Spain, Greece and Portugal and export to Belgium, Chile and Countries from Middle East.
